I need some help..............I have a foolish tatoo on my wrist and I was told that nurses are not allowed to have any visible tatoo's. Is that the truth or will I be able to cover them up? Please help
Thank You !

What is a foolish tatoo? You foolishly got a tatoo? Or it is a tatoo signifying foolishness? :)
Not alot of nurses with tatoos here in rural Northern California. Those that do usually keep them covered.
I think each facility has its own rules.

Tatoos are a matter of facility or agency policy. Some places are more leneint than others. My agency has a rule that tattoos are to be covered, no visible body piercings, one earring per ear and hair must be restrained at the neck if long. For home health no denim allowed but any type uniform is OK .

My facilities policy is that no "offensive" tattoos may be shown..(which of course what may be offensive to someone is of personal opinion) I myself have 5 tattoo's....none which are visible at work (just by chance really)..although the top I wore last night allowed my armband to show.....OH WELL:)
Check the policy at your hospital.......

By offensive, I think it is anything obviously offensive. Unless it contains profanity or something similarly offensive, it shouldn't matter. I have never heard that nurses cannot have tattoos.

My facility has policy that says that you can not have visible tat's, but fact of the matter is on my LFA I have a skull with a joker's hatand on my RFA is a heart with three claws in it, also a funky tribal spiral that I drew, andan acorn with oak leaves. Last but not least I have a cross on my right thumb.
As for piercing my tongue is done twice with 12 G, and my right ear is done twice with 4 G.
I have a shaved clean head and about a four inch goat-t that is trimed neat or braided.
Most of my pears and pt. are taken back at first glance, but I have been at this facility for six months and the everyone now can see that the outward look is not the mater at hand the care that you provide is what you will be considered for and the majority of folk can see the facts clearly.
I give quality care and that is the bottom line.
Live it do not fear it.

depends on the facility as to whether tat's are acceptable or not. you will have to check around. i do not believe mine has any policy prohibiting them, as long as they are not "obscene" whatever that means....

On a different note if you want to keep the tat, but the facility objects you could get Covermark concealer to obscure it. It is waterproof and absolutely covers.
Q: Does Tattoo Cover Kit really work?A: Inspired by models with tattoos trying to land assignments, the TATTOO COVER KIT includes everything you need to keep your tattoos under cover temporarily, including the best concealment foundation, powder, hydrating base, and professional instructions.

I have some huge red scars on my chest and back that it will hide when I want to wear a low cut dress or swim suit.
