I am on Metformin and it does taste nasty. Synthroid is sweet. I have had a lot of pts that chew ibuprofen (ewwww). I always ask pts what things taste like. I am really curious. Kaexolate is mostly sugar so mosr don't complain. Carafate supposedly doesnt taste bad. I get more neutral answers than bad.

Ativan (generic) tastes like Sweet & Low, as does orally disintegrating Zyprexa. And prednisone is horribly bitter.

We would put the dissolving Zyprexa in a straw with a coke for a few patients fighting us on taking it that were in acute episodes. I don't remember who showed us that trick but it worked good. Although that wasn't one we gave often in the ER since we usually stuck to the IM injections.

I had to take liquid ranitidine as a kid and that stuff was just awful.

I thought the Xanax that I was given in the urgent care side of my hospital's ED was horrible tasting. They broke in half so easily when trying to get them out of the darn package and the one given to me was broken. I sat in the room afterwards wishing I had some gum or juice to try to take the nasty taste out of my mouth. I didn't want to bother anyone though. I was happy when it did the trick and gave me some relief from my spasming back though, so I would take it again for that if needed. First and only time I've ever had anything like that.
