  1. i forgot to add that i am a nurse
  2. i resigned from a hospital job after a week for some health issues i needed to attend to. they said i would be re-hirable. now i am left unemployed with an unemployment gap of about 3 months, going on 4 months if i omit the job. i am still dealing with some health issues but i feel like i need to get back into the workforce. i was wondering if i should leave this job off my resume, but if a job application asks for my work history if i have to include it? does this job show up if they run a credit check or background check or use SSN? am i screwed for life now for leaving so early?
  3. If you can, yes. It shows you are aware of where your pt is and whether they are off the floor or not. You are offering more comprehensive documentation it's easier if someone asked you a question about it and easier for someone else to know in case they glance at the chart.
  4. how do you know what gauge IV catheter to choose to insert in someone? i know that the larger the gauge #, the smaller the diameter/thinner the needle, but does anyone have any tips based on pt chief complaint and symptoms? i'm new and not quick at anticipating what future labs/studies a pt may require down the line yet. when drawing labs off a fresh IV start, to prevent hemolysis of the samples, is there a threshold of gauge to not use to avoid hemolysis? i hear 22G at most for most cases, is that true? if a pt ends up being admitted to the ICU from the ED, for example, i have read that ICU RNs do not appreciate IVs in the AC bc of alarms going off for pump occlusion when the arms bend. i mean depending on what is available, i may have no other choice, but i want to try to be considerate iahead of time n case a pt does get admitted to another floor from the ED. does IV access in the AC only matter if the pt is getting a CT scan w/ contrast to r/o PE or are there other scenarios? is there a certain gauge needed? is the AC where they are administering the IV contrast dye? do IVs have to be restarted in 72 hours anyway at a new site? idk if this just varies by hospital policy. in case a pt needs a blood transfusion do you need at least a 22G or below?
  5. i sometimes get calls from friends/family of patients and idk if the secretary gave them my number or just connected them somehow and was wondering if someone from the outside could actually call onto the ascom phone
  6. what's the direct number when people want to reach a certain extension? i only know how to reach another extension when using the phone.
  7. no, just genuinely curious about what to tell patients a med will taste like if they ask.
  8. i was wondering if anyone had experience themselves or w/ patients having reported a medication having tasted a certain way? what do oral potassium chloride and kayexalate taste like, for example?
  9. besides asking friends and family for doctor recommendations, where else would you find out whether a doctor has good reviews/ratings? are websites such as healthgrades.com legit?
  10. I had a few questions, the answers to which may seem obvious to some, but I was wondering: - How are the positions such as nursing informatics, nursing education, nursing administration, clinical nurse leader? For nursing informatics, I hear they would rather look for - Are online degrees legitimate? - Are you screwed by undergrad GPA forever if you didn't do as well or how much does job experience help and what kind of job experience for how long would help? - I hear a lot of hospitals do not pay DNPS more than MSN NP's. Any thoughts? I was thinking of doing PA instead, in that case - When you choose a MSN degree, it has to be in a specialty/concentration, correct? - Do I have to wait to get 2+ years of experience on the floor or would I be able to apply with at least 1 year on the floor in a critical care area like ED?
  11. When you applied for other nursing jobs, do you mean internally within the same facility?

About the "license on the line," if the new grad RN does do something incorrect, depending on the error, couldn't it be classified as negligence and malpractice and a lawsuit could happen?
  13. thank you very much, everybody :) i am considering becoming a NP or PA down the line, in terms of career goals, but not quite yet.
  14. i cant decide which would be better experience. ultimately, i would like to work in the icu. idk if it would be more beneficial to get more experience working diff floors in float pool or deal with emergent situations in the ER? i know float pool can be daunting to a new grad but i am willing to either, whichever i can learn more from.
  15. If, say, the application deadline to a school that requires it is April 1st, when would be the last day I could take the online version and still have results sent over in time? And the TEAS V is available on many days, right? (unlike SAT national testing dates) If April 1st is the deadline, does that mean the results have to be available and sent prior to that date or I could take it on Feb 28th and still be okay?
