I am starting this for anyone who is applying for the TCC RN program in August.
like I've told other people who have asked, it all depends on what kind of student you are. I doubled up on sciences in the summer along with other classes and did great but that's not the case for everyone. If you took chem. and had trouble with it this semester, I would not double up on sciences unless you are willing to commit to studying, especially since science GPA is 50% of overall score.I wouldn't seek advice from others, bur go with your gut. Some people can take heavy course loads and some can't, its all up to the individual person. Don't rush. Nursing school is very competitive to get in to and when You are in, its even tougher.
I have to agree that the quality of the student is a big factor, but there is an even bigger factor on how successful the student will be, the instructor! I had Mr. ******* for A&P I @ the south campus. He doesn't give the students a review for the test and everything in the book was "fair game". If you didn't study ahead then you'll be completely lost. I had taken A&P I and II for massage therapy, passed both with an A, but didn't get credit. Even so, taking A&P I with Mr. ******* was the hardest class I've ever taken in my life, but is also the one where I've learned the most. Then I took A&P II in summer with an instructor that gave us a review and a copy of his power point slides, and I didn't learn much. It was an easy A, but it won't do me any good in the end.
I got in also!!!!!!!!!!! I was #10.
@Angela: My two cents on the situation with taking the sciences classes: If it was me, I would agree with what you've head, taking chemistry before any of the sciences is my recommendations. However in light of your situation and with your goals, I would recommend to take chemistry and A&P I and then would take micro and A&P II in another semester. I only took chemistry at TCC, so I'm not completely sure how anat and phys works there, but I think it's better to take them in separate semesters. Micro builds further upon your information of basic bio, so i would recommend that you've taken basic bio first. Good luck to you!!
NEED HELP! I need all 4 sciences still and it looks like I am going to have to double up to make my goal start date! any suggestions on doubling up and/or suggestions to NOT double up! I want to have all classes completed by the end of 2012 so I can apply in Spring 2013 for Fall 2013. Any HELP is greatly appreciated!@
Angela- Ditto to everyone's advice. I took API (B)and Chem(A) at the same time in the Spring and then Micro(B) Summer I and APII(A) summer II. I was pregnant and hadn't taken a break since I began the prior Fall. I missed the last 2weeks of summer apII and still got an A. However, I am 19th on the alternate list and probably would be in better position if I had received at least one more A if not 2. My API professor Dr. ** at SE campus was amazing but a toughy although I learned a lot. I got a B and Micro which was my favorite science so far but was so tired(7-8mo preg), burnt out, and it went really fast. Lots of good advise to consider just remember SCIENCE GPA is the only one that counts aside from Hesi of course. All of my prereqs are complete with A's but doesn't matter. Sorry so Long winded!!!
Now I completely understand why everyone else was talking about getting things done. I hope I don't forget anything!! I'm so happy to join you all and AJK, I am holding out hope that you'll get in too!!
KMART----- Congratulations to you too!!!!
Thank you and hope to have some good news soon!!!

@ Angela, I am kinda in a similar boat. I had initially wanted to take AP1 and Micro this fall but b/c of that change regarding the math pre-req that fell through. I am taking Micro now and have an awesome instructor at SE campus. However I still have to take AP1&2 and Chem b/c I really want to apply to the program in August. So right now my plan is to HOPEFULLY take Chem and AP1 for Spring, and save AP 2 for Summer session. I can tell you that if I would have known I would have done Micro and Chem in same semester b/c I think they go hand n hand. We talk about a lot of Chem in Micro. So that's just a suggestion. Good Luck!
