I am starting this for anyone who is applying for the TCC RN program in August.
After your first semester in nursing school you can be a tech at a hospital and be a nurse extern (you can start IVs!! :)) there are other things to do in the hospital but that's one of the best opportunities to really be a part of the action.
Oh that's perfect!! I was going to look in to getting my CNA next summer while we didn't have classes but it looks like maybe I won't have to do that? I'm so anxious to WORK in the hospital since my only experience has been as a patient. LOL

LOL! I thought we do have classes next summer? Mental health courses right? I remember someone from fall 2011 thread say something about that... but I would really like to do a nurse extern. program, I've been working in home-health for 3 years.

Well as usual I'm highly confused about what exactly our schedule is. LOL That's one thing I will say for Weatherford when I was looking into applying there - they laid everything out for you online so there was no question. I just think I'll be able to get a real gameplan together when I know how things will operate. Either way I'm with you, I'd love to do the extern position. Or, like I was telling my husband, Baylor Dallas has a department dedicated to IVs - IV Services. I had to use them a couple times daily while I was in there and that's all they did, IVs, and they were awesome at it. I wouldn't mind doing something like that as well.
Sounds reasonable to me, considering a lot of CNA programs only take 6 weeks or a little more.
we wouldn't need the cna cert. after the first semester! Even if someone did get take the CNA course, the chances of getting hired are still slim because they wouldn't have any patient care experience, which is usually what they look for. Yay us!!! :) I know most of those jobs are on a " as needed basis" but something is better than nothing right? I'm so excited to start! I want to buy books so bad!!!

Me too! I also want to start looking at the CID's but I learned from Chemistry it's just easier to buy them at the library. Cheaper too, so that will have to wait along with everything else. I'm not a great waiter. LOL
