Tarrant County Spring 2012 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

I am starting this for anyone who is applying for the TCC RN program in August.

hmm I don't know about that. I have all my basics done also, but I think we would Just have to go with the scheduled courses and graduate whenever we complete all the required classes. we start together, we end together.

I think each semester is a prerequisite to the next.

Hey all! Not sure if this helps, but Student an Txhusker are correct. You would not be able to take other nursing classes and graduate early. It is a set program and you will have to follow it. Also, the classes will all be at the TREC so that must be an error. Your first semester is Foundations. You will take Foundations(theory), clinical (for foundations), and nursing skills. I believe that your first semester is the only one that you take a skills class. Anyway, those are the three classes you will take the first semester. There should be 10 people per clinical class and for the most part, those same 10 will be in the other two classes. There may be one or two students doing a hybrid class or something. Other clinical groups will be in your other classes (skills and theory). Hope that helps! I know how exciting this is for you!

@ Student2009 - how are you doing with your schedule? Do you work? Are all the classes and studying consuming your life or do you still have some free time?

My schedule works out for me. I quit working right before school started. I really don't see how I could work and do this at the same time. I also have no children. I do plan to get a job after this semester is over (part-time). Nursing school is extremely time consuming which is why it is so hard in my opinion. I spend about 20 hours in class/clinical each week and about 30 additional hours studying and in the skills lab(on my own time, not for class). The first two weeks of school had me thinking that it was sort of easy. And it was. But not anymore. It's overwhelming at times. That being said, you really need to have good time management skills. If you do, then you can make time to do the things you want for fun every now and then. I wouldn't recommend doing those things the weekend before an exam or every weekend, but I do think it's important to make time for yourself and enjoy time with fam and friends. I do know several people who have jobs and make it work. I know some who are struggling with that. Some work part time on weekends only, etc. If you don't have to work, then don't. If you do have to, try to figure out a way to do it part time. Save your money now if you haven't started already. You will need it. Also, really try to keep a positive attitude in school. Take the bad with the good.

Nursing school is awesome. I have made wonderful friends, I joined TNSA and have been able to do some volunteer work. Nursing school has been a great experience for me, and I hope it is for you all too! TCC has wonderful facilities and most of the instructors are more than helpful. The classes are much more interesting than Micro, AP, or chem. You will be learning stuff that you can apply in clinical, and it really applies to what you want to do for a living.

Hi all! I too am applying for the spring 2012 semester. I hope we all get in! I was told by the advisor's that Nov. 15th we should know whether or not we get in. I have a 4.0 GPA and I made a 92.5 on the HESI. After reading this thread and looking at all your scores it doesn't look like its going to cut it. My backup plan is to start taking the classes I would need to apply to a 4 year program like UTA (since they do have a 15month accelerated program). I will most likely try applying one more time to TCC in the spring and maybe even to El Centro. Does anyone know if its more competitive in Dallas or Tarrant County in terms of community colleges? :nurse:

welcome jvaugh!

as for the 15 month accelerated program at UTA, i believe that is only for the LVN to BSN or RN to BSN option. Where as you are already a nurse but want a bachelors instead of an associates in nursing.

In my opinion all community college programs are very competitive, especially since tuition is much cheaper than a university.

and i think i have updated my "plan b" options. I still plan to reapply if I do not get accepted this time around, but im going to prepare my transcript for a 4 year degree in the event I dont get in the 2nd time around. Since Im only 2 or 3 science courses away from having completed the requirements for a bachelors in science, i just need to pick a specialty, seems logical, even though it just means more school..yaayyyy..... :/

but i seriously hope we all make it through! only a few more weeks!

@ Student 2009 - thanks again for all the info. You are so helpful. I'll bet your always helping all your classmates as well.

@ jvaughn - Welcome!!! Your scores look great to me! Can't do much better than that.

Okay, so we have made it though the long two months after class started waiting for the application period to start...the even longer two month application period...

So here we are 3 1/2 weeks post application period. We are on the home stretch!!! Yay, letter could come any day at this point. Hopefully only 3 more weeks to go. It seems like their goal is to let us know before registration. Hopefully none of us will be up at 5 am trying to register for classes while the system is crashed...lol.

My mail doesn't run until 5pm and I don't get home until 6pm so whenever I get an e-mail notification from allnurses I eagerly open it hoping some is gonna say "the letters are out, I'm in" then when I get home I double check the mail anyways to see if you guys are sleeping on the job, lol.

Specializes in Hoping to do either L&D or Trauma.

Well darn! It was worth a try though. I just can't wait to know how it's going to go, more than anything. What our schedules will be like, when we'll be learning what, all of it. We are less than three weeks from knowing, too! :-)

LOL@student, i have the notification settings on my phone to email me when people respond also, and I too, look for the "im in!" post...*sigh*lol

The way i figured is that they have decisions by november 15th, and regardless if we find out before registration, no one is going to be able to register because the classes are restricted anyway, and we will have to reply back to them letting them know if we accept or not.

So they decide on the 15th, send out the letters, since it is in fort worth it only takes about 2 or 3 days until we get them in the mail from the day they send them out. So if they mail them out by wednesday of that week, we should find out by that following friday or monday the latest.

The suspense is KILLING ME!

ALSO, remember that we have to have our meningitis shots before we can even register!

@ Tx - when I was talking about registration I meant in case someone doesn't get in, so they could reg to take regular classes in the spring while they reapply.

Yay for being old. I am 33 so I don't have to get the shot.

@student- ooohhhhhhhhh lol I'm having one of the blonde moments that last all day. haha.
