Tarrant County Spring 2012 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

I am starting this for anyone who is applying for the TCC RN program in August.

Specializes in Med-Surg.

I just wanted to clarify that jvaughanbrooks is correct re: the accelerated BSN at UTA. There is a separate program for those completely new to nursing without a prior LVN or RN.

Libra you are correct. I went back and read it there is a permanent accelerated bsn program at UT Arlington. however I think it would be.more difficult to get in since they give priority to students who work at their partner hospitals for teaching , freshman students that have started at uta, and those who have taken atleast 30 semester hours at uta, and the large amount of applicants per semester, nearly double of tcc.

does anyone know if we get to pick our own schedules? Or put down a"preferred" schedule I'm assuming we do, but you never know..

an answer to my question above-

via fall 2011 thread

"For the first semester, your classes and clinical site are chosen for you. When schedules were displayed for us at the South campus, there was a sheet off to the side where you could write your name and the schedule you were wanting to switch for. I believe you could switch with someone else if you both agreed to swap entire schedules, not just a single class. And for the most part, everyone was given a clinical site that was relatively close to their residence. They're not going to send someone who lives in Hurst to a Mansfield hospital for their clinicals."

so in advance, if we all get in, and someone has an all PM schedule with weekend clinicals, and is willing to trade ill take it! lol

@txhusker-I believe there was only one Saturday clinical offered (10 students) this semester. They will put you at a hospital (make sure that you update your address with the nursing department, not just the school if you have moved recently) near where you live. The only Saturday clinical this semester was offered at JPS. Maybe they will add more Saturday clinicals and afternoon classes this coming semester? Like dreamer said, you can switch schedules with someone but you have to switch the entire schedule. After the first semester, you get to pick your schedule including clinical location/time.

If you would like, I can post my class times so that you all can have an idea of what it could look like. Just let me know.

Student..if you would post that would be great..so we get an idea of what to expect. Thanks!!

M/W 1-7 clinical

T/Th 10-12 lecture

Thurs 1:30-4:30 skills

Skills will always be on a day of your lecture, not the day of clinical. It's only 1 day per week. the morning clinical is from 7-1 I think.

So glad I got my meningitis vaccine when I started my others - my doctor recommended it and I'm so thankful! It wasn't bad at all.

Thanks for posting StudentCL!! You've always been a great help. :yeah:

I sure hope I get a morning schedule. My husband works from 9am-8pm and so I've always done everything early morning so that our son doesn't spend 12hours in daycare. :( Plus, every other Saturday I have to take him to his mom's which is an 8hour roundtrip. Gah! I plan on eventually working overnights but for now I'd love to start at 6am every morning! LOL

My husband has started asking every day when I get home, "Has your letter come yet??" Gotta love him. The anxiety is getting to everyone in this house. :uhoh3:

Hey Cross-

I thought I was the only one getting bombarded with the whole "get your letter yet" from my ENTIRE household...lol

Geez..it's not even Nov 1st yet... PLEASE let these next few weeks go by fast............LOL

Since I already got accepted into Weatherford there is only so much stuff I can buy. My husband has already been surfing the Internet and found me a watch, stethoscope and a pair of shoes...I love them all. He normally isn't a shopper. I think he's pretty proud of me. I'm so excited that he is so involved in all of it. I appreciate all the support he gives.

Awww that's awesome Student!!! After talking about school yesterday my hubby said, "I know one of the the things I am getting you for Christmas now!" and I told him not a stethoscope because I needed a certain one and he got all bummed. "But I was going to have it engraved!" LOL We weirdly think on the exact wavelength.

As of today my concern is going to be shoes - I need some super comfortable but supportive ones as I may possibly have a stress fracture in my foot (confirming tomorrow). When it rains it pours.

Carrie - I know!! I think Brent is just stressed by it, with his new store opening and everything it's just too much for him right now. Poor guy. He may breathe a bigger sigh of relief than me when that *acceptance* letter gets here. *Positive thinking!!* LOL
