Tarrant County Spring 2012 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

I am starting this for anyone who is applying for the TCC RN program in August.

That's good less paperwork to mess with and turn in I guess lol. Do they tell you where you get to get your drug test done at too?

I take my HESI. in two weeks! Its still a long ways away but I'm excited! :)

Hey guys,

I applied and was accepted to the fall program at TCC. I just wanted to wish you all the best of luck! I'm going in to my 4th week and am loving it!!!

Student- All of the nursing schools do not do the same background check!! WC used L1 but TCC used Group One. I was accepted to both schools last semester and did two background checks through two different companies(and paid for each one).... There was also no fingerprinting for TCC like at WC.

Also, we had about a month to take care of everything we needed to take care of, it wasn't really the entire summer. When you get your acceptance packet, it will have a checklist of things you need and when you need them by. There will also be information about what books to purchase and other suggested books. Obviously you can go ahead and get CPR certified if you aren't and get your immunizations done. Be sure you have your varicella vaccine or titer done. They will not accept a note from your parent or doc like in the past. You will need to have the actual titer, or shot record showing you are immunized. Other than that, the background check takes about 10 minutes and is done online. The drug screen takes a short time but they will have a specific set of dates right before school starts for you to do that. All of your skills supplies are purchased through the TNSA office. They also have uniforms that are donated by students finishing school and sell them for $2 each. lab coats and scrubs. They said that some still have tags on them, so that could be worth looking into.

As far as the math goes, we have our dosage calculation test in a week. We use dimensional analysis and is actually quite easy. I would suggest looking into how to do that if you want to get a head start. That is something I was very nervous about, but with DA it is easy. Every problem is worked the same way...so as long as you know how to do DA you will be fine. They actually took about 2 hours at orientation and we worked problems, and we continue to work them at school in our clinical. Def use the problems on the TCC nursing site. It will help you!

Other than that, it's just a lot of reading. There really hasn't been any homework. Just TONS of reading....and I mean TONS.

I've made lots of friends, I like all of my profs, and am loving nursing school all around. It's just awesome, I don't know what else to say about that. I wish you guys the best of luck!!!! I hope that some of this info helps you out a little.

Thank you studentCL2009! Very helpful info! Congrats on getting into the program! Good luck this semester!

Forgive me if this has been covered in previous posts, but I did a search and didn't find anything. The HESI study guide I purchased has a physics section. I'm assuming there is no physics section on the test?

Thanks everyone for the helpful info you have posted here.

Welcome Jefe- No physics on the exam for us, just math, reading, vocab, and grammar like in sure you have been reading.

@studentCL- thanks for the info. i'm glad they have everything so organized!

-i take my hesi next week, im so nervous, I had another one of my "dreams" last night, but in this dream i completely missed the entire exam! It was the worst!!:bluecry1:

@ Student - Thanks for all the info. We really appreciate you guys dropping in to check on us. That sucks about the background check but I wont worry about it unless I actually get accepted into TCCD. Did you have to pay for both the drug tests as well? I have to pay for mine by 10-11 and I know TCC wont let us know before then. I am really glad you are enjoying the program. So how is the parking going. I have a girl at work that is in her last semester at TCC and she said she is getting plenty of exercise, lol.@ Jefe - Welcome - TXhusker is right, no physics. Just Grammer, Vocab, Math and reading. Just the first 66 pages of the book. Good luck!!!!!@ Tx - lol, you will do fine on the test. I would say you will feel better once it is done but not so. Afterwords you will be just stressing for the letters to come out like the rest of us. I was paranoid that I would oversleep and miss the test also, but I was an hour early. Just be sure to get their early because the WILL NOT let you in the parking garage unless you have a current (green) parking pass and they just changed it also by adding a stamp to it. So if you are not currently taking a class at the trinity river campus you cannot park in the garage...even if you are taking a class at another campus. The parking attendents will not make exceptions, but the walk from the other lot is just 5 minutes...assuming you dont get lost finding the other lot. :)

are you talking about parking at the new lot they just paved? I don't mind the walk if its not raining lol. that stinks about the stamp thing though. I might just have someone drop me off then lol. Idk.

Student-No, I didn't pay for two drug tests. I found out about TCC before the drug test for WC was due (barely) so I just paid for TCC. I was super bummed about paying for the background check 2X's though. TCC does the check through Group1 and then from what I understand, at the end of the program you will do one through the FBI and TXDPS for the BON to sit for the NCLEX. At least that is the way one of my instructors explained it. When you do it for TCC you won't get a blue post card or anything.

The parking is not as bad as I thought it would be. If I get there at the right time I can usually find a spot at the TREC campus (like today). But tomorrow I know I won't find a spot there so I will go straight to the TRE garage. I've had to use overflow 2-3 times. Next week I start clinicals so 2 days of the week I won't even be at the campus. But yeah, the program is great. I had doubts before I started but now I KNOW I made the right choice at TCC. I absolutely love nursing school. Plus it's really close to my home which helps a lot.

Good luck to all! I know the waiting game is no fun but enjoy your time before nursing school starts!!

*wipes brow*

im getting nervous, ive been looking over my transcript and never noticed how "messy" it is till now. :uhoh3: i can only imagine what the advisor is going to say to me about it...:(

TX Husker- I wouldn't worry about it. As other people have pointed out, it's not the advisor that decides whether we get in or not. I'm sure your transcript is just fine, I think we're all a little bit on edge as we wait to hear a decision.

One more week until the application period is officially closed :) we are moving closer...........

thanks for the pat on the back hopefulmender.

I dont want to sound like the chronic complainer of the group, i've been going through a lot lately, and the usual organized person I am, is becoming disheveled. I think we are ALL definitely on edge since the app. period closes soon and we just have to wait. I actually gonna take a 1 day break from studying and go watch my future husband in concert this weekend :loveya:. (HA!) to try and relax.

All I can say is my exam is next week, my paperwork is read to roll, what will be will be, and if we all make it in, then i think we all deserve to go out for a drink! Assuming everyone is of age that is lol.
