I am starting this for anyone who is applying for the TCC RN program in August.
txhusker- I definitely think that you should be okay if send in your old shot record along with your new one
I'm sooooo sorry I didn't mean to freak anyone out with my changes comment. They are indeed going with what was mentioned in the app and powerpoint. They are going to use 50% science GPA and 50% HESI scores, but this is the first semester they are admitting people based upon the HESI test, and in preceding semesters they used science GPA and overall GPA. She also predicted that a lot more people would apply this semester because of the brand new facilities. So she said that because of all these things, she thinks that it may be more difficult to get in this semester than in other semesters.
BUT she could be totally and completely wrong, it is just the opinion of one woman.
I'm sorry to
@hopefulmender - way to make us paranoid!! LOL, jk. thanks
Im not turning my in until the 29th which is when i take my HESI, & yeah, its cutting it pretty close.. but I think i might go up there tomorrow to talk to an advisor anyway and see what kind of information I can dig up. I thought they always based selection on GPA and HESI or TEAS scores, I didnt know they used to do only GPA's. I think regardless of the new campus or not, there still would have been hundreds of applicants. And like I said before, their has to be some other criteria that they look for because they can have 200 out of 400 applicants with the same exact scores.
I'm a MILLION times sorry to worry you guys!
They did use TEAS scores in the past, they also used overall GPA along with your science GPA, and bonus points from med term, patho, etc. Now they just use science GPA and HESI.
I am completely agree with you that it does seem like they have to use some other criteria because of all the people that could have similar score, but she did explicitly tell me that they are only using science gpa and hesi scores.
The counseling office is the same place where you wait to take the HESI. They are VERY nice there. They sit you down and go over a checklist to make sure you have everything you need and give you back a copy that they sign. I found this very helpful. With the signed sheet if they loose something then you have proof that you turned it in. The lady I spoke with even made copies of everything even though I had already made copies myself. They are not the selection committee though. So it's not very helpful on trying to get info concerning that. But hey, we dont know how it will go or what there formula is besides 50/50 HESI/Science GPA so there is hope for everyone!!
Student213- I agree that I found the advisor to be quite helpful in going over the checklist of required items and she was very nice.
And you are right, she is not the selection committee. I suppose I just panicked after she told me that bit about this semester being more difficult than others.
I will say (and I know Student can agree with me) that although we *know* that up to 455 students can apply for the program, I don't think it will be that many. I know in my HESI group there were only about 20 of the 35 available spots filled. Also I think that there may be some that took all of the bonus classes thinking it would help them since maybe their GPA's were a little lower, not realizing that they won't actually count anymore. It always amazes me how many people do NOT read or do their research -- which is why I also think that the best of the best are here at AN!! LOL
Time is passing very quickly and at the rate they are going, maybe we WILL know something before Thanksgiving. That would be awesome!! :-)
