Tarrant County Spring 2012 Applicants

Published

I am starting this for anyone who is applying for the TCC RN program in August.

Congratulation to all with a great score for HESI. I am so nervous right now because my exam come up this wednesday.

Can someone give me an example of Grammar and Vocabulary section? and do you have enough time for the reading? I must admit that I am a very slow reader and I need all the help I can.

Oh, one more thing. What book do you guy/gal use to study for the test? I am using the HESI Exam Review and McGraw-Hill's. I don't know if these are good enough or not.

Thank You Very Much,

Specializes in Oncology.

You will do great! Try not to stress too much The HESI review book is a pretty good review. The grammar and vocabulary are very much like the book. Some of the vocabulary words are the same. The reading passages are short, and I think there is plenty of time. You have four hours to do the test. They will keep you informed on how much time is left. I used less than half of the time, and I did not rush.

I hope that helps ease your mind. You can do it!

Thanks so much guys! I'll be turning in my application sometime next week. Let the waiting begin! :)

I'll be turning my application in next week as well. I'm excited to have everything done and turned in, but the waiting is going to be torture.

I turned in my application today. She did say that they are starting a new streamlined application system this semester and she seemed hopeful that it would speed up the process...so the waiting begins.

sounds exciting! :)

I have my application complete, I just need to take my HESI, so i plan to turn it in right after I take my exam.

-After you take the exam, do your scores get sent directly to the nursing dept. or do you have to turn in a hard copy?

- On your immunizations sheet, did you guys get everything signed?

I had my filled out last friday and they did not sign on the lines for the MMR, but she told me that I only needed that signed if i got a titer done, but i was immunized when i was younger so she didnt sign it. So im kind of iffy on that. I dont want my application to be deemed incomplete on a simple mistake like that..

Yay! That's exciting that the application process could be shortened.

hmmm... I had them sign for MMR. I had one of my MMR shots done in 1994 and they went ahead and signed off on that one as well as another MMR shot that I had in July of this year. I would take it up to the Tarrant County Public Health office and have them sign it just to be sure.

Oh and after you take the HESI test they give you a printout of your scores that you include in your application packet.

@ hopefulmender- thanks..

well, i went to the health department today, and i was told since they did not administer me the MMR shots to [ the physician who did has already retired] , they cannot sign off on them on the application page, BUT I should be alright since my shot record has the physicians signature/stamp on it, basically stating that all of my immunizations are valid??

So i called the nursing department and talked to the girl that always answers the phone [katy], explained my case, she said to put an asterisk next to the blank spots, and place a little note explaining why is has not been signed, so they won't just look at it and it be blank.

Do you guys think that will work? I don't know what to do..:uhoh3:

txhusker- I'm sure it will be alright. :o When I went up to TCC to drop off my application, I was directed to an advising counselor who went through my application with me to make certain all my ducks were in a row. She said the only vaccination that they were really concerned with was the Hep B. shot. So I wouldn't be too worried about it, especially considering you still have your shot record with your physicians signature/stamp on it.

I do have to admit that I'm feeling much more anxious after speaking to the advising counselor. She said that it would be tougher to get in to the nursing department than in preceding semesters due to the changes in the selection process.
