I am starting this for anyone who is applying for the TCC RN program in August.
RE: Vaccines . . .
I don't know if this is helpful to anyone, but in lieu of getting a half dozen shots in one day my doctor did titers for varicella, MMR and Hep B (I'd had 2 of the 3 Hep B vaccines about 10 years ago). They called today and my titers were high enough that I won't need any additional shots - yay! My plan is to go in and have my physician sign off on the vaccine forms as well as make a copy of the titer results when I get my TB test done. I'd rather include too many pages than not enough, I guess. ;-)

Hey everyone! So I printed off the application and noticed that 50% of our admission criteria is the score from the HESI and the other 50% is from the GPA from the 4 required sciences. I am a little worried..... I only have a 3.25. I am 2A's, 1C, and 1B. Does anyone have any advice... Should I retake the C?Also, I am a little confused about the vaccines now. I spoke to Bev and she said that as long as I had my school vaccines I didn't need them signed off on the vaccine page. Am I the only one who got that information???
Katie,
If I was you I would study hard for the HESI and apply, but I would also go ahead and register for the C class again for Fall if there are any left. We wont know until Dec and that wouldn't give you any time to retake it for the next application period. Should be pretty easy the second time around.
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!! I HOPE ALL OF US ALLNURSES PEOPLE GET IN!!!!
Okay, I have a question,
I thought we were only getting picked bases on HESI and Science GPA but in the last page of the app packet it says
A selection commitee reviews the Nursing Program applications. Applicants are selected who best meet the following criteria, listed in random order:
- Scores on HESI
-GPA on science courses
- Declaratory Order Information Sheet
- Student Statement of Responsibility
- Immunization Form
I know that last three are required to apply, but does that mean they are also going to consider things like how many shots we got done or something?

I don't think that is the case. I read it as meaning that they will take your grades from HESI and sciences, and then ensure that you have the other items completed. So I guess if you ace the HESI and have a 4.0 in sciences but forget one of those forms you would be excluded. That's how I took it at least . . .

Ive been trying to do some online research over the exam, ive found some things helpful, some not. They seem to contradict each other really :grn: . Is it TOO soon to start freakin' out??
For whoever has the study guide book, if you look in the back at the practice tests, on some of the first questions on the math portion of the exam, does any one know if there are actually going too be questions like that? Or are they all going to be problem solving? From what i have read online SO FAR, it seems like most of it is problem solving, multiple choice and fill in the blanks..
Also, i have asked this before about the vocabulary section, does anyone know if it will be a mix of medical terminology and general terminology? If so, i need to brush up on my root words..
Are we going to be taking a "Critical thinking" portion of the exam?, I can't recall if i was told so or not. and that is NOT in the study guide..
Something else i found informative, there is no "go back" option, once you hit enter, there's no turning back..eeekkk!!!

I don't think its too soon to freak out, personally!! :-) More of a freaked out/terribly excited mix over here . . .
I've flipped through the HESI book briefly but to be honest I have two weeks left of A&PII and I really want to focus on maintaining my A in there before I start practicing for the HESI.
This reminds me a lot of the TAAS/TAKS testing used in high school. Same type of standardized testing. Encouraging to know that it is computerized and you get your scores immediately, though.

KLP- Yeah, i basically gave up whatever social life i had left for that semester..lol
Katie- I would do the best i could on the HESI and I would go ahead and try to apply with the 3.25, its better that 0.00, know what I mean? You wont know unless you try and if you don't make it in then you can always reapply again in Feb. which is what I'm going to do in the event that i'm not accepted this time around...
As far as the vaccine thing, Im not so sure anymore, i have heard so many different things regarding it. When I spoke to my nurse she said that the school is looking for the sign off sheet, but then again its been like 20 years since I had my MMR and things like, that so I am going to get everything signed off anyway AND send in my updated shot records.. just to be on the safe side .
