Tarrant County Spring 2012 Applicants

Published

I am starting this for anyone who is applying for the TCC RN program in August.

@cross- its kind of hard to tell if the coat will be long enough or not, but it looks fine to me. The best thing to do is just to try it on and if it hits mid-thigh or lower, i think you should be alright. But i do like the look of it, sort of looks like the one i bought, and if you click on the photo, it will bring it to a smaller picture so you can view the entire thing lol.

Is the campus open tomorrow? i didn't think they would open until tuesday, which is when i plan on paying for the rest of my stuff and going down to take my drug test too..

I started on my planner when i got it, sort of over whelmed me with all the things going on, flipping through the CID's and making sure i got everything written down, but i might buy another one since the one i've been writing in is so messy looking now! LOL.

I get my books wednesday! so exciting!!:yeah:the only things left to buy are the rest of the reference books, the CID's and case study material...and maybe another pair of shoes!

for our insurance card, we're just supposed to make a copy of it correct?, the only thing is that it says when it is supposed to expire, but mine doesnt have that anywhere on the card, it just shows the effective date, and as long as i keep paying for it, i'll have insurance. Do you guys think that will be a problem??

I don't think it'll be long enough then if it has to be mid-thigh. Darn.

My FA hits on the 11th or 12th so it barely gives me enough time to buy everything - eek!!

That sounds like it'd be good enough for the insurance. I'm just going to scan both sides of my card and if they need more information than that I will just have to request it from BCBS. My doctor was thankfully able to squeeze me in Tuesday morning to complete my health form and that should be the last thing I need to email in.

im in the process of scanning my things to email in as i am typing right now. I stopped by Care Now earlier this week and got my physical and flu shot, only cost me $46, so not too bad. As soon as my FA comes, i plan to just pay for a whole year's worth of insurance just so i dont have to worry about it lol.

As for the lab coat, i remember from orientation that they said it couldn't be the one that sits at the waist or something like that, that would be considered a consultation coat or some junk. I bought mine on pulseuniform.com for $18, they have some really good deals on stuff, check it out.

Have a question; who do I email all the thing off the check list to

@nancy- I emailed it to the nursing dept. Email address that's at the bottom of the emails they send us. It ends up being sent to one of the admins.

@txhusker thanks

@cross- i have skills on Mondays as well and I read I think in the CID that we will make it up on Friday the 20th at the time your monday class is. Mine is from 9-12 so it will be on friday from 9-12.

I am getting so excited I can hardly stand it. I am going to be up at the school probably tues and thurs for the next 2 weeks reading and preparing for the 1st weeks classes.

I CAN'T WAIT, to get my books so I can start reading!!!! :yeah: im still in the process of finding a bag for all my things..

Have you bought your reference books also? Im having a hard time with choosing a dosage calculations book, I know it says to get the one by Craig, but i can't find a "5th" edition, and the reviews for the book are really not in it's favor. I have heard good things about the "dosage calculations for dummies" though.

what kind of recommened reference books did yall buy

@txhusker - no I haven't bought ref books. I am going up to school tomorrow to get all the little books and CID and this and that. I am also taking drug screen too. Hopefully I will be done purchasing and doing all that is needed to be done to register. I haven't even looked into which of those books are best. So if anybody else has some input it would be nice to hear some opinions.

Im getting my drug test done tomorrow also, maybe i will pick up hard copies of the CID's when im at campus paying for everything...hopefully we will get the clear to register before CPR classes, if i remember correctly, they said they would write us petitions.

as for the reference books, i have the following-

taber's medical dictionary

and will be purchasing the following books-

Nursing Care Plans: Diagnoses, Interventions, and Outcomes - Amazon.com: Nursing Care Plans: Diagnoses, Interventions, and Outcomes (9780323065375): Meg Gulanick, Judith L. Myers: Books

Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests (8th Edition) - Amazon.com: Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests (8th Edition) (9780135074053): Joyce LeFever Kee: Books

Fundamentals Success: A Course Review Applying Critical Thinking to Test Taking - Amazon.com: Fundamentals Success: A Course Review Applying Critical Thinking to Test Taking, Second edition (Davis's Success): Two Books in One With Bonus CD-ROM (9780803619210): Dr Nugent, Vitale: Books

I'm going to go do my drug test first thing tomorrow morning I think, because I have an appointment to get my health form signed at 9:45am and then another appointment in Las Colinas at 2:45pm and I don't want to be in line forever. LOL

I honestly haven't even taken a look at which books are best or anything other than doing some cost comparisons between TCC / Amazon / Chegg. Hopefully I can get to that this week.
