Hello,
I'm applying to the fall nursing program in January. I'm super excited but I still have some unanswered questions. I tried calling the Nursing Dept at the South Campus and left a message but have not heard a response.
I'm trying to find out what teas version they are testing with in the spring for fall entry. I have read tons of threads from TCC for the past few semesters and it is nice to start a new one for nursing hopefuls like me.
I'm taking Micro in the fall and getting a math class knocked out for BSN. Anyway, hope to get some responses.
On a side note, has anyone looked at/purchased a stethoscope yet, or have any experience with them? I went today to start looking around to try and find a brand/style that I like, and every one of them hurt my ears. I tried several different brands too. Maybe they don't squeeze as hard the more they are used, or maybe your ears get used to them... I don't know. But I hope I don't have to go my entire nursing career dreading every time I have to take a BP or check a heartbeat.
I work as a medical assistant in a cardiology office. We do manual pressures so I do about 30 bp's a day. I have really sensitive ears so finding a comfy fit for me was hard. I use a Littman lightweight II S.E. It is super lightweight and the ear buds are soft and flexible. I got it for 50 bucks after tax. It is my favorite one so far. Hope this helps :)
manow and lmd, I loved the Littman lightweight that I tried on.
Most of the nurses where I work reccomend Littman too. The advice I've been given is spend no more than $50 for school, and get a nice one as a graduation gift when you finish school.
I've heard that the nice stethoscopes have a tendency to "walk off" if you're not careful. Although I would like to have a nice one to begin with that would make it easier to learn from, I'm tempted to go the cheaper route while in school like you said. I guess I have the summer to think about it and look around some more. The lady at Scrubs, etc. that was helping me said a lot of students use the MDF steths (which also come with a lifetime warranty and she said the Littmans and Ultrascopes do not). I just want to make sure I make a good investment for school, but not too good of an investment that I'd be upset if it was lost or stolen.
I'm getting more nervous now as well. I should get in if this pool is similar to past pools, but who knows. The competition may be extra tough this time around. I'm trying to remain positive, but it's getting more difficult with each passing day.
Anyone gonna call and see if they have gone out?

Nothing good in my mailbox yesterday. Hopefully today will be the day.
