Tarrant County College Spring 2014

Published

I haven't found a thread for Spring 2014 TCC nursing applicants, so I thought I would start one! I still have 2 more classes to complete before I can officially apply. I have an A in A&P I, and hope to have an A in A&PII this semester. I scored 92.5 on my HESI, but I might re-take it.

Who else is applying and what does everyone else have?? :)

@elavette04 well if its the same thing then no they max out at about $12 an hour if that. They normally start at about $9.00 based on my research.

Hmmmmm.... I'm gonna have to look into that... Because I talked to a Nurse Practitioner and she told me $17/hr... I'm gonna research this...

Where did everyone go?? Only a couple more weeks and its time to start checking our emails for our letters! So nervous/excited!

So I was reading the app packet from tcc nursing it said 100-150 student get accepted each semester am I right? On previous years anyone know how many were chosen between those two number?

I should say semesters

@tiffanies, The job market is tough. Throughout nursing school you will have time to make yourself more marketable. Get a PCT job. My initial PCT job was full-time and I did it through school working for $12/hour and 36 hours/week. It was tough. But I got 4 interviews within my hospital system because of it and some of my fellow students who did not work in the hospital system maybe had one GN interview and some got none. It's important to get your foot in the door... however, you can get a new grad job without it. Do what you can.

I don't think that the problem with the job market right now is with ADN students. There is definitely a drive towards BSN students and some hospitals can be super choosy and only hire new grads that are BSNs... but really the problem lies within the fact that there aren't enough hospital new grad positions. You will get a job with an ADN, but it may not be your first choice. I know plenty of new grads with ADNs that got great jobs in big hospitals. Still, think about getting your BSN as soon as you can.

Early graduation exists because of the other group of students that go through the fast-track program. There were 8 people in the fast-track program who were set to graduate in August and so TCC sent an email out to us all and told us that there would be some spots open and that we could all apply to get the remainder spots if we wanted. The additional people they choose are those with good grades and/or extenuating circumstances (they want people to be successful, they wouldn't choose you if they didn't think you would be). And so, that's about it.

Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Thanks for the info. I will definitely keep this in mind. I have heard so much negativity about finding a job but I think the best bet is to get into a hospital somehow. I am so looking forward to just finding out and getting started with school.

Thank you so much for clarifying that! Was your PCT job overnight?

I worked mid-shift: 11a-11p

Ok, that's not too bad...

I have my CNA license and will be looking for a job soon. Nervous about working and going to school though... I can't believe only a few more weeks until we know!!! I'm trying to stay busy and not think about it! Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!

Working while in nursing school terrifies me also! But, I hear a lot of success stories... My acceptance letter is all I can think about. I just need to know!

Well hopefully we will hear sooner rather than later... Maybe in 2 weeks if we are lucky. Just trying to stay busy. I've also been trying to think of a fun way to tell my family and friends I got in.
