I haven't found a thread for Spring 2014 TCC nursing applicants, so I thought I would start one! I still have 2 more classes to complete before I can officially apply. I have an A in A&P I, and hope to have an A in A&PII this semester. I scored 92.5 on my HESI, but I might re-take it.
Who else is applying and what does everyone else have?? :)
Hey everyone, I just stopped by for a little bit of nostalgic reading...
I started nursing school at TCC in Spring 2012 with a bachelors degree and a 3.5GPA and a 90 HESI score (or something like that). I was wait-listed and then later emailed with an acceptance. I wanted to point out that the grades that you get into nursing school do not determine how well you will do in nursing school. I ended up being in the top of my class and getting the opportunity to graduate early. I finished school August 16 and was licensed October 1.
Nursing school is difficult. BUT it is doable. Never take anything too seriously. You will grow so much during the experience and you will laugh and you will cry but in the end you will be changed for the better. In some ways I'm a little jealous of you all on your experience. I'm waiting to hear if I get into the RN-BSN program at Texas Tech but it is in no ways similar to what you are going through.
To save yourselves a little bit of stress... check this website the very least that you can stand. Reading other people's posts about their successes or defeats may stress you out more.
Above all. TCC's program is wonderful. The teachers here do a great job and you will learn more than you could ever have imagined. Don't freak out. I repeat DON'T freak out. If there are other people that are putting stress into the environment, avoid them. Nursing school is difficult, but don't listen to the people who freak out on a daily basis about reading and studying every hour of every day. I worked full time through most of nursing school and still did well. Get a clinical job after your first semester of school. Expect to send out a ton of applications and don't feel bad if you don't get the one you really want. PCT jobs are probably the best thing you can do for yourself.
Also, start looking into which RN-BSN program you want to do right now so that you can get an idea of which pre-reqs you will need. Nursing school goes by ridiculously fast.
Good luck everyone! I am excited for you!! Stay strong... stay busy! You will be starting soon enough! If y'all have any questions, feel free to PM me!
@kmart89 thanks for sharing your story. It is great to hear real life experiences. Everyone makes it seem so hard that it is sometimes overwhelming. On a smaller scale however everyone told me how hard A&P would be and I thought it was very doable and managed an A. If I may ask just a few questions. In your findings, is the market really as saturated as I read? Is it as tough as people make it out to be to find a job with an Associates degree? Also, how did they go about determining you were eligible for early graduation?
I wish you all the best with Texas Tech! Good luck with the rest of your journey in school!

It's helped me more than you know. I've been freaking out about this and you just helped ease my concerns. I wish you the best with Texas Tech. Thank you for the positive feedback. Encouragement is always welcomed.
havent been on in a about a week... lots of posts since then! I can't believe we will know in about a month. I'm looking forward to knowing if my hard work and sacrifice has paid off thus far. So in light of all the anticipation I thought it would be fun to talk about what we want to do with our degrees WHEN we get in and then graduate. Do you want to work in hospital, clinic, medical mission, what's is your dream job right now? I am really interested in surgery so maybe med-surg. I also find the NICU interesting. So in the beginning I would like to do something to gain experience so I could work in those fields. I would also really like to go on some medical mission trips, maybe one a year and then more as my husband and I get older. It will feel so good to know that I can change someone's life just by giving them their vaccines. so, what are your plans everyone?
Great question. I eventually want to become a CRNA so my first step is to get into a hospital and into an ICU unit. I hate to be a Debbie Downer but has anyone else been reading up on job opportunities. I have been kind of stressing my self out since a lot of these posts say its a rough world out there for nurses and trying to find jobs...even with a BSN. Do you all know of any friends or anyone having a hard time finding jobs?
I believe that if you dropped the spot later they would call an alternate. However are you sure El Centro is the school you want? I know its best for you money wise but I have not heard good things about their program. With TCC you also can get right into the Tarelton/TCC BSN bridge program. Tough call! I feel for you[/quote']Thank you for replying. Honestly at this point I'm hoping to not get accepted to El Centro just so I don't have to make the difficult decision because I have heard so many great things about TCC as well. But I can't pass up the guaranteed job with El Centros Program. Luckily if I do get into El Centros program. All of my classes and clinicals are through Methodist so maybe it's better than actual El Centro. Anyways thanks for the support :)
