Tarrant County College fall 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Welcome! I thought it was time to start a new thread for TCC fall 2013 applicants and future hopefuls. I've followed the past 2 threads for TCC and there are at least a handful of us finishing up pre-requisites this summer and fall.

Feel free to join the conversation and pass the word to others.

I applied to the program yesterday officially and now the wait begins. Not that I am wishing my life away, but Dec 1 can't come soon enough. Good luck to all applicants.

Hey everyone ! Currently taking A&P 1 and Micro at SouthEast. A&P2 next semester and then will apply. I am still debating on TCC or Texas Women's ( their weekend program because I work full time now ). So many options !

I was wondering if anyone at the Southeast campus had discovered allnurses.com. We should use each other as a support system or for study buddies...I know I could use it. :x3:

Trinklee,

I'm at the southeast campus :)

So I took my HESI on the 21st... I received a 94.5!

I'm glad it's out of the way.

I saw a comment the other day asking how the vocab section of the HESI was, but I could not reply due to the site being down.

I no longer see the comment, but I'll share some info!

Math- This portion was exactly like the book, maybe even simpler. The questions I had consisted of mainly conversions and basic addition and subtraction. There were a few percent to fraction questions as well.

Reading- Less detailed then the book study guide was. Make sure you study authors purpose, and context clues.

Grammar- Review book will help greatly with this section

Vocab- I studied all of the words in the review book. I also downloaded an app from the Android app store. I'm not sure what it was called, but it was the only one available for Android. It had flashcards for the math and vocab section, which really helped. I also looked at the flashcards from quizlet, which were also a big help. I believe most of the words on this portion, I had seen on at least one of the study materials. Of course, there were a few that I could not remember... so I ended up with a 92 on vocab.

The best advice I can give is that it really is not a difficult as I thought it would be. As long as you understand the study guide and make sure to study the material covered in there, than you should be OK. I was definitely way too worried and thought it would be way more difficult than it actually was.

I know most won't take it until next semester, but I wish you all the best of luck!

PJE22, when do you think is the best time to take the HESI exam, since I plan to apply in the Spring of 2014? Thanks for the information about it Maybe I'll see you around SE campus and we won't even know, haha.

Trinklee,

The testing usually opens up during the application period, and you are allowed to take the test more than once.

If you wanted multiple opportunites to take it, you could take it during the application period before spring 2014. The scores are good for TCC for 1.5 years. So if you were not happy with your scores, you could retake it during your application period. I just ended up taking it a semester early because I was originally applying now to start the program next semester. Plans changed, but I still went ahead and took it:yes:

Thanks so much! I'll probably take it more than once, then. :bookworm:

I hope everyone is doing well this semester and getting excited for the application period to begin in a few months. I'm taking micro this semester for my last science and so far it's been a breeze! I also just got on with Texas Health's new Harris Methodist Alliance hospital so I'm extremely excited about that and cannot wait to get started with nursing school.

Hi all! I attend the NE and NW campuses and plan on applying for the Spring '14. I'm in A&P 1 now and have already taken all my other science courses. Just need the anatomy classes. Has anyone heard how hard the competition is for acceptance? What if you have all A's and get one B, do you still have a chance?

@obxluvr

I believe that would make your gpa a 3.75.

I have seen many in other threads with the same gpa who were accepted. As long as your HESI scores are competitive, I would think your chances of being accepted are as good as everyone else's.

Hello all. I am new to this site and am glad I have found others that are on the same career path as myself. I am currently in Chemistry at south campus and it is killing me. I am thinking about taking microbiology in the spring and A&P in the summer. Can anyone recommend professors that they liked? My current professor is all over the place, and it makes it hard to follow along with anything she does. Your recommendations do not have to be tied to south campus..I am willing to drive anywhere to ensure I have a great prof. Thanks in advance guys!
