Tarrant County College fall 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Welcome! I thought it was time to start a new thread for TCC fall 2013 applicants and future hopefuls. I've followed the past 2 threads for TCC and there are at least a handful of us finishing up pre-requisites this summer and fall.

Feel free to join the conversation and pass the word to others.

Great Info! Thanks ktm89. I basically have about 7 more gen ed. requirements for either Tarleton or UTA bridge programs. Guess I will be busy during breaks from the ADN program....LOL!

I'm hoping they'll take my technical writing and great religions of the world as my 2nd freshman English and philosophy. If that's the case I'll only need statistics and one more hour of PE! Fingers crossed

Good for you,ktm.

I'm in Stats right now and it's not too bad.

Unfortunately I have both History I/II, Eng. CompII, both Government courses and Literature to finish if I want to bridge at UTA or Tarleton. For either program I will need a seventh gen ed course: for Tarleton they want Nutrition and UTA wants Soc/Anthropology. Either way I have seven more gen ed. UGH!

I know UTA has a technical writing requirement but they will except SPEECH and other similar classes. Those students that attended ADN schools in a partnership with UTA can do the BSN in 13 months totally on line (with the prereqs finished, of course.).

Having the Tarleton program available in downtown Fort Worth is also great. Especially if you don't want to do online courses and live in Fort Worth.

This is an exciting time!!!!

Hello Everyone! I am also planning to apply for fall 2013. I am finishing up my pre-reqs in the fall at the Trinity River campus. I am taking AP1 and 2 and Chem. In case you think I'm crazy, AP1 and 2 are just to get them within 5 years, so since I have an A and B already and they take the highest grade out of two attempts, I should be good. Plus, I figure if I can't handle that much work then this may not be the career path for me. I'm looking forward to getting everything done so I can enjoy a free semester before things get crazy (hopefully).

Has anyone on here taken the HESI yet? I am hoping to take it in August or September and then will retake it if I need to.

Welcome futureexpectations! You sure have a lot of work for you in the fall! I'm sure you'll do fine though. I just finished A&P II a few days ago and can't wait to get started with micro in the fall. So far I've made all As in my sciences so I'm hoping that trend will continue with micro. I haven't taken the HESI yet but I'm considering taking it this fall just to see how it is, then using the time until we can actually apply to study for it. I'm very excited!

I do have another question concerning the HESI in case anyone knows. The review book shows that it has a science section, but I've read posts from others saying that the test does not. Does TCC have a test specifically geared for them where the science portion has been removed? I am planning to hopefully talk to an adviser this week or next to get a few of my questions answered. I want to make sure I plan well in advance so I am not caught off guard and am prepared to start next fall.

From my understanding, TCC does not require the science portion of the HESI. It's not necessarily that the test is specifically designed for TCC, but each institution can decide which portions are needed and which are not. I'm personally thrilled that science isn't covered. While I've made A's in A&P 1 and 2 as well as chemistry, I wouldn't even know where to begin trying to study for that type of test. Whenever you do speak to an advisor let us know what questions you ask and what they say! Hope I was able to help some

I planned on being ready to apply in the Spring of 13 for the Fall of 13 BUT.......................I had to drop AP1 before the semester started since I was allowed to register without taking Math 0350. I was NOT HAPPY!! It backed me up and now I can't apply til Fall 13 for Spring 14. Made up some time by taking 2 sciences this past Spring. I took AP1 and Micro. Was the hardest semester EVER!!!!! But I pulled an A and a B. Anyway...........I have seriously been thinking about going for my BSN. I work as a PCT for Tx Health and it seems an ADN is not going to get me far by the time I am done. Has anyone seen or heard this? I am sooo confused!!!

Hi Joshsmother! Welcome to the thread!

As far as an ADN vs BSN, I've heard from multiple sources that many hospitals in Texas are beginning to only accept nurses with a BSN. I wanted to get my BSN anyway, but knowing that just makes it even more important to me to get it. My plan is to get my ADN from TCC and continue on to get my BSN. Tarleton will start offering an ADN to BSN bridge program at the trinity river campus in the spring, so I'm thinking I will probably end up doing that once I have my associates. It's going to help save some money and the TCC campus is very close to me, so I'm seeing it as a win/win.

Hopefully I was of some help to you!

Very helpful ktm89. My BSN was always the plan but just undecided on how to get there. I feel more secure not that I am in clinical setting. Having my foot in the door is a huge step in the right direction.

Joshsmother- You are already have a great head start with your job. I already know you are taking AP2 this fall. Are you taking Chem this fall too?

Thanks! I feel overwhelmed right now but know once I get on the floor alone I will fall into a routine. Med Surg can be scary but I know this is a step to get me where I need to be! Grateful for the job and the chance to learn before I even apply to nursing school.

What's everyone taking as their last science this Fall before the application period opens? I'm taking Microbiology at the NW campus. Hoping to keep my 4.0 science GPA!
