Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

so this is the thread to force me to keep on track for my exam and anyone else who is taking nclex in march around this time

study guide-saturday 3-3-12

plan on taking 150 questions from kaplan q bank today - saturday

plan on reviewing 3 subjects from hurst- renal- done, neuro, endocrine

then just reviewing random topics from kaplan book-

sunday

plan on taking test q4 from kaplan which i believe is 100 or 150 questions and if i get through that reading of 2 more hurst video handouts

test 3/21- i have to buckle down harder.

**i have done 450 kaplan q bank questions as of friday

3 kaplan q tests = 300 questions

kaplan pre diagostic test 180q, post test 180 q

by march 19th -sunday- i need to have finished a total of 1200 kaplan q bank questions and 4 more q exams inorder to be eligible for their refund policy and really be in good shape for the exam so i have a ways to go.

Great job!!!! I like how you are keeping tract and sticking to your study goals.... I wish you well on your upcoming exam...... You have passed the nclex already!!!!!!!!!

I test on the 19th of the month.....:nurse:

Thanks and yes, it sort of forces me to stay on track and to be accountable. it also provides wme with a quick overview as to what I've done.

Good luck to you as well. let's claim that we have passed already and keep positive thoughts.

Mine is the 16th! Yikes! Do you have to pay for the kaplan test bank? and thank you for the random facts link!! God bless you! :) lol

Good luck to you as well. I got access to the Kaplan Qbank and tests because i took the inperson review. It was around $379-$400- we got a discount because they came to our school .

They said you should aim for 60-65% on the last 2 tests Q6 and Q7. I'm up to Q4 now. I'm testing between 52-72%. I noticed that when i rush or don't really think through the questions, I score lower. When I take my time, I do better.

I'm pretty mad at myself. I had as a goal on Tues to do 2 sets of 50Q for a total of 100Q.

i was so tired yesterday, I took a nap and woke up at 11:30pm which was too late to effectively do anything worth while so now I'm feeling so mad at myself and guilty.

I'm going to do 50Q at work now and 100Q when I get home. I've realized that I can't play games with myself. it's best to do the questions no later than 1- 2 hrs after work when I get home because time will get away from me and then it will be 9-10pm which is too late and i really don't want to do it.

So new goal:

50Q at work today

2 sets of 50Q at home today = 100Q

Same for tomorrow which should bring me back on track. Will update.

NewGoalRN your going to fine. Just keep studying and relax.

I took pn nclex yesterday I stopped @ 160 qns im freaking out wat does that mean? anybody know some one whom they stopped at dat number and pass

I took pn nclex yesterday I stopped @ 160 qns im freaking out wat does that mean? anybody know some one whom they stopped at dat number and pass

I think the # of questions that you get are irrelevant. The computer stops when it's figured out if you've met the minimum requirements to pass or fail.

I've seen people fail at 75 questions and pass at 265 here for the RN. Try to see if the PV trick works to see if you get the good pop up or if it will allow you to re-register.

Good luck.

Well I took a 50Q test from the Qbank on my lunch hour at work

Score 62%

Much better - change in approach- I perused the first 38 pages of the Random Facts sheet listed in this thread for a memory jolt as I didn't do any questions yesterday.

I took my time and tried to block out any distractions.

It took me 27mins to do 5oQ

I've had a chance to review the prior tests and this confirmed that :

1. I'm good with psych questions- consistently 65-77%

2. I'm good at math questions

3. I suck at point of reference questions on the heart i.e Erb's point, Aortic, etc so I have to reveiw the heart for the landmarks

4. I'm pretty good with delegation

5. I'm good at therapeutic communications and I guess that makes sense seeing that I love psych and do well with psych questions

6. I have to review OB- this is the only area on Hurst that I didn't fill out the book and only watched the video one time

NEXT UP

2 sets of 50Q today for a total of 100- I can't fool myself, I know myself too good, questions after dinner prep, if I put off and get distracted, I will only get 50 done or can't concentrate when doing 100 because I'm tired.

Ok so I took the 2 sets of 50Q from the Kaplan Qbank and finished about 7:30pm

That would make 150Q taken today

Scores for the 2 tests were:

64 for first set of questions done at home

took one hour and 20 min break and read the rationales

62 on 2nd set of 50Q done at home

I'm pleased with those scores. I'm starting to see a patter now;

UPDATE: Total questions from Qbank done 810 Total percentage of Qbank done 67% Cummulative score: 59% (need to get that up to at least 62%)

Always assess first

Don't pass the buck in most instances

Know your lab values especiall K, sodium, calcium, Albumin (3.5 to 5.5) also way to assess nutritional status

Definitely see lots of ICP, lumbar puncture, diverticulosis, bucks traction/traction, cataracts, dumping syndrome, thyroid, aldosterone questions etc

Lots of priority questions

Lots of delegation questions

fair amount of psyce questions

know infection control- what to wear for each and diseases in each category

Therapeutic communications (no yes/no questions, always ask open ended questions, never ask a 'why' question, keep responses focused on pt not the nurse or other people)

Check pt not machine - some exceptions like kink in catheter for autonomous dysreflexia etc

Goals for tomorrow

50Q on lunch hour

2 sets of 50Q for total of 100 at home

Total questions to be done tommor 150Q then will be caught up

Thursday

Did 2 sets fo 50Questions

52, 54% not great but getting there

Friday

1 set of 50Q Bank questions on my lunch time at work 48%

Just horrible but now I know if I don't have time to do the test don't do it because I will rush. I ran past my lunch time and had to pause the test, supervisor and manager walking by made me nervous- ugghh! just horrible

2nd set of 50Q bank questions at home this evening 68%

Spent more time thinking through the questions. using ABC, and narrowing down to 2 those i didn't know

Trying to see if I have the motivation to do 50Q tonight.

I've identified a major weakness which is pregnancy- thank good ness I remembered

VEAL CHOPS

from that study guide here, it helped me get a quesiton concerning late decelerations right, i rememberd uteroPlacenta insufficiency

This is the one area that i haven't done the Hurst fill in book on, will try to do that this weekend.

So far

[color=#333333]variable deceleration = cord compression

[color=#333333]early deceleration = head compression

[color=#333333]acceleration = okay

[color=#333333]late deceleration = poor placental perfusion/ placenta insufficiency
