Taking Chemistry in a 5 week session?

Published

Hi I have been reading alot of the threads lately and I see that you guys are good at giving advice. I just have one quick questions is it smart to take chemistry in a 5 week summer session ? I want to get my PRE reqs done but I'm not sure if that's smart because I know there is chemistry on the HESI so I want to have a strong foundation in Chem for the exam . Will I still be prepared for the chem part of the exam if I take the 5 week summer sessions VS a regular term in the fall?

Please help ! Thanks

You also have a job? Son, you're going to need to schedule everything - including bathroom breaks - really, really tightly. :)

Kudos to you- I admire your work ethic. We so often hear from whiners here about how taking two sciences (no other classes) in a 16-week semester is too hard and they have no social life - it's nice to hear from a student who is not afraid of hard work.

I did the dreaded Chem/Anatomy in a full semester structure. I don't work and I was often slightly overwhelmed with the sheer volume of learning I was doing. I don't recommend combining them in short semester. Honestly it's just A LOT!

I think it also depends what kind of chemistry you're talking about. High school chem only covers gen chem. If your chemistry class only covers gen chem, you might be okay. However, the chemistry I'm taking is a condensed gen chem, o-chem and bio chem course. It's a lot of work, and most people in my class are not doing well b/c they def don't study enough.

I'm taking gen chem . I would die if it included o/chem and bio/chem !

Thank you ! I really try and put my best foot forward because I know that's its possible! And I gotta work so I learned to not make excuses and stay focused and its taken me a long way!

Deon - I'm planning on taking chem this summer too! 6 week course. Kinda nervous because I'm in the same situation as you. Wasn't a big fan of it during high school, but I'm hoping this summer will be different. I can't imagine taking it alongside AP1 though! :o

Wow, accelerated chemistry AND A&P is going to be rough! I did chemistry and A&PII together in a normal 16-week format and thought I was going to rip my hair out! I did also have two other standard classes going as well though. I wish you lots of luck and hope you do awesome!

Now you have me scared for fall semester! Lol I'm taking A&P II, chem, statistics, a music course and a multicultural diversity course..

I am taking my last pre req this summer before starting my BSN program in the fall. It is an 8 week allied health chemistry. I am not too worried because the course description was for "people who have never taken chemistry before" and I took high school chem & college general chem last year. I don't know how I would feel about 5 weeks though... it was an option to me when I was signing up but I did not think I could do it. Do you have lab more than 2 time a week?

I would advise against taking chem in 5 weeks if it is regular general chemistry. If it is the 'chemistry for health sciences' that a lot of nurses take, then it won't be as difficult, but probably rough for 5 weeks as well.

I think you should be ok, really. I think there will be a lot you're going.to cram in, but it's doable if you go in being prepared for a marathon month of studying. Gotta do what you gotta do.

Gen chem isn't too difficult especially when it clicks and coincides with all your other sciences classes, everything tends to run together. You will understand a&p, micro, nutrition, pharm, etc so much better when you get through chem.

i have do have AP lab twice a week but not chem the lab isnt a requirement
