Reach out to NPs in that area. If call is included in your salary package as with most physician packages I'd want a significant amount above the base depending on how much call and what it entails. If it is paid separately I'd ask the MD rate because if the duties are the same I'd request that rate. Without solid information about your local area you could be losing thousands of dollars.
I take call and it is "included in my salary". When I negotiated my contract I had asked about call pay and I was told that it was built into my salary and that they don't pay separately for call. Thankfully I don't get called a lot (I'm in a specialty) and I also do not have to go anywhere. Now with that being said, If there were a need for me to come in to the hospital, I would definitely ask for call pay. This is time away from your family, etc. I did PACU nursing before becoming an NP and I was there all the time but I got paid accordingly. Don't let them cheap out! If I were you I would ask some other NP's/PA's/Docs that do call if they get paid and ask them how they structured it. You are likely to get wildly different answers here.
Our specialty practice required call from 0700-1900 on sat and Sunday. It involved going to 2 hospitals 50 miles away and seeing our consults, sling h&ps and discharges. We usually saw 5-15 pts total. We also took call for 17 dialysis units. We got paid $500 pet weekend and we rotated between 7 nod
I work for a specialty, 2 providers. I do rounds at the hospital 2 days a week plus every other weekend. I am on call 2 nights a week after 5 and from 5p on Friday through 8a on Monday the weekend I am rounding. I do not get "paid extra" for this. It is part of my contract. I also take call for the other provider's vacation and he covers for mine.

I am a new NP considering a GI job. The physician wants someone to take call and participate in hospital rounds. In the city that I work in, I think starting pay for new NPs is approx. 85-90,000 annually.
Is it pretty standard to receive extra compensation for call? How should you negotiate the call pay, per hour or per call shift? I read an online article from AANP that average call pay is $51.00 per hour, but that seems really high to me. So what are people being paid for call?
I don't want to sell myself short in the negotiating process. TIA.
