I work at a nursing home and is my night off and I just got word that administrator has taking away our chairs from the nurses station to get us to work harder. There has been lack of documentation in all units. People think he did this because a power trip. The administrator is only 24 and he is new and he's ****** a few people off. I think it gonna cause a lot of conflict but if people accept this change, it could be a positive change. I have charted standing and it's taken less time to chart. Less time charting means more time supervising and more time at patients bedside which overall will improve patient care. I totally get it but I will take some time adjusting.
I'm just have more better things to think about than ***** about a chair to sit in while charting.
but yet you made an entire post about it
and this is from the link you posted about the benefits of standing while working:
"The Ups: The upsides of this are this is very simple, very natural just to stand in place and to work. You’re constantly moving. It’s easier to think from being free from the sitting position"
can someone porifice this gibberish for me ?
Not trying to impress anyone. This is getting irritating. No one sees my point. What is wrong with spending less time at the desk. Its healthier to move Around. I've charted not sitting down and it saves time, for me it does. You guys are making it out like it is standing in one spot and no breaks.

It means that you can think better standing or moving versus sitting down

There are plenty of people for it is HEALTHIER to alternate from sit to stand; I have a medical condition in which if I stand too much, I will start limping, plus pins &needles and cramps will affect one of my legs; and I'm 32 yet look like I'm 32, BMI is 24, and I am a yogi, eat complex carbs enough protein and fruits and veggies....so your point is???
They're plenty of nurses that work among our team that are valuable and need the chairs, not to mention PRIVACY of charting to comply with HIPAA.
I'm going at it in this angle because the respect aspect of this maneuver has been posted; not to mention illegal; also, they would be in violation of the ADA if a disabled worker was on your staff-you wouldn't know that; most people are NOT willing to share their ailments-so it's NOT a good thing...give that respect to the rest of your team on WHY its not a good idea, and THEN you will understand the responses.
Not everyone is in your position, nor has the ability to do so; if it was, you wouldn't even have a thread...more importantly, you post interprets to me someone who only sees the trees and not the forest, and how this is mind-boggling the incorrect way to make a solution-no staff involvement or input to help decrease falls, or incidents and accidents, or WHATEVER the administrator THINKS is going to help productivity-it will NOT improve the problem.
My not so nice comments what are they why would I get in trouble I was just trying to show it not all negative
I'm glad you took my advice and changed your avatar.
Your colleagues can see your not-so-nice comments to other posters, and it might make them question whether or not you're a nice PERSON. Never think that something you've posted on the internet on a public forum isn't going to color people's impressions of you as a person.

I changed my avatar because you made realize people interpret things differently. My opinion the things I've posted doesn't dictate the kind of person I am.
Pinkessence, the article you linked seems geared toward office workers who normally sit for most of their workday. I'm sure most nurses who normally stand and walk as part of a normal workday are able to tone their glutes at least as much as a normally sedentary office worker who chooses to stand to accomplish that goal.
I think people are upset because there is an attitude of accepting an ignorant and insulting rule and making the best of it rather than fighting back. Sort of like saying it would be a good thing to have meal times cut to ten minutes because you won't have a chance to overeat and obesity is a bad thing.
Well I'm done commenting on this thread. People statements are becoming insults and I don't deserve that. I didn't realize this thread would become so negative I didn't want that.[/quote']Where is the insults??? They are opinions...nothing more than two cents...
The post is not negative; people are only expressing how a result from management may not be such a good idea; heck, illegal; there may be a time where you may see something and it's not a good idea or even legal or ethical; that's why it's prudent to see both sides of an issue, and make informed decisions; you may still think it's a great idea, however, don't be surprised if the chairs will be back...

the day we get treated like professionals is the day I will think we are. this is why I am strongly in the "just a job" camp. I have been to ( either through clinicals or as a visitor) many hospitals that do not have nurses stations. most had one or two desks for the clerk/s. It kept the nurses from sitting and also keeps them from congregating together. ( who knows what can happen if we come together). Charting is one of the most important parts of my job, I can do that sitting. If pts, visitors or other staff are too ignorant to understand that, well too bad. I don't care anymore..... although i have charted standing up in order to avoid having to deal with the interuptions at the desk
