Taking A&P II and Microbiology during the same semester

Hello AN Pre-Nursing Students!

I was wondering who has taken A&P II and Microbiology during the same semester.

I'm planning on taking both this fall at a state university (I'll also be taking philosophy and beginning Spanish I), so I can apply for the BSN Class of Spring 2016 at my university (all cohorts of nursing students are named by their graduation year) next spring.

I took A&P I at my local junior college in Fall 2012 while working as a kindergarten teacher and took Introduction to A&P (a requirement before A&P I) in Spring 2011. Already have taken Chemistry and Statistics.

I'm a post-bacc, 2nd degree student. My first bachelor's degree is from a private university and is in Ministry to Children and Family. I graduated in 2008 and was in a one year hospital chaplaincy program (my turning point for nursing), then taught kindergarten for three years and met my fiance, and now it's back to full-time college.

I have not personally done it, but did have a friend do it this past spring semester. She took microbiology, A & P 2, & nutrition (all with labs). She said it was doable, she just had a strict study schedule. Also, she did not work & was able to have lots of time outside of class to get her work done & stick to her schedule ( no kids, just a boyfriend). I hope this helps!

I tried to do it but opted to drop one and take them separately. My micro was entirely essay and there was just way to bluff that

I took A&P2 and Micro together this past semester, along with American history and humanities. It was tough only because the exams in both sciences were on the same days the majority of the semester which made studying and separating material a bit complex. Other than that, it was fine. It's completely doable. I got A's in both.

I took them together and my instructors kind of lined them up so that in each class, we would be going over the same topics at the same time.

I'm also thinking about taking A&P II and Microbiology together this fall, but I'm afraid to do so. I heard that A&P II is more about understanding while Micro is a lot of memorization. So, I'm kind of scared talking those two classes together because I'm just now getting my GPA up (3.2) and I don't want to do anything that will make my GPA drop. If I do take the classes together I will also be taking Human Growth & Development and a p.e class, but the good thing is I'll not be working so I think it will be doable. Before I make my decision I will research the instructor as well.

My school will not allow students to take both in the same semester. A&P II must be done first. Honestly, I pulled A's in both classes with 16+ hrs, so they aren't all that bad. Understanding of certain things in my A&P II class was very useful in my micro class. I had some HUGE lab reports for my micro class that literally took me hours! If you can, take them at different times so you can devote more time to each class, retain more info, and get better grades!

In the Spring of '14 I'll have A&P, Pharmacology, and Microbiology. Talk about a very heavy science load, but that's what I love.

I have to do this next spring. I want to start the program at a certain time in order to not lose a year of school, and with what I have left in pre-reqs, it's just how it's falling. I'm glad to see others have done well with taking A&P II at the same time as micro!
