I'm 27 going back to school full time to become a nurse. Definitely worth it! I was 23 and working as a Chaplain in Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby when I realized that I CAN be a nurse. You can reach your goals at any age! Enjoy the journey!

My first thought was Spanish. I'm in the same boat with 2 semester of pre-reqs left and I'm going for my Spanish minor. It's on my "bucket list" to be conversant in Spanish.

Hello! I, too, am a second degree student. I graduated in 2008 with my bachelor's in Ministry to Children and Families, was in a chaplain residency program for a year (loved the hospital setting and the nurses were so influential on my journey) and then taught kindergarten for 3 school years. Due to working as a teacher, I've been taking a pre-req at a time (more in the summers) at a local junior college. This summer my fiance and I are moving and getting married. I will be going through a traditional BSN program (there is no ABSN at my university). I still have a year of pre-reqs to go before nursing school, but I have decided to increase my Spanish communication skills by getting a minor in Spanish as well. With an ABSN, I wouldn't have the time to get my minor in Spanish, which I believe will help me in the long run in nursing. With the path I'm on, I'll be graduating from nursing school when I am 30. It's your life journey. Decide what is best for you. I'm excited about attending nursing school at my university because it really is an up and coming program, a true hidden jewel at my university, which is more known for engineering. I would love to do a summer externship and work at the local hospitals while I'm a nursing student so the traditional BSN for me is the right choice.

I've thought about nursing and bivocational ministry in the Episcopal Church. I've felt that I've had "multiple vocation syndrome" most of my life (my own term). Still discerning.

My fiance and I are about to be married this August and we'll be both starting school in the fall. He'll be working on his prereqs part-time for the Medical Radiologic Technology program at the technical school across the street and I'll be full time working on my nursing school pre-reqs. With both nursing school and the rad tech program being two years, we'll be graduating hopefully the same year. We're excited about it!

Hello AN Pre-Nursing Students! I was wondering who has taken A&P II and Microbiology during the same semester. I'm planning on taking both this fall at a state university (I'll also be taking philosophy and beginning Spanish I), so I can apply for the BSN Class of Spring 2016 at my university (all cohorts of nursing students are named by their graduation year) next spring. I took A&P I at my local junior college in Fall 2012 while working as a kindergarten teacher and took Introduction to A&P (a requirement before A&P I) in Spring 2011. Already have taken Chemistry and Statistics. I'm a post-bacc, 2nd degree student. My first bachelor's degree is from a private university and is in Ministry to Children and Family. I graduated in 2008 and was in a one year hospital chaplaincy program (my turning point for nursing), then taught kindergarten for three years and met my fiance, and now it's back to full-time college.

I'll be 30 when I graduate from nursing school! Nursing is my 2nd bachelor's degree. I was an educator in the state of Texas for 3 years and was a hospital chaplain for 1 year (Clinical Pastoral Education residency). Learned so much from the nurses when I was a chaplain! Been debating between teaching and nursing for at least 4 years and I'm going nursing! I have one more year of pre-reqs, then I'm applying to nursing school.

Thank you for sharing about your own personal experience with bipolar disorder! I was diagnosed a month ago after being diagnosed with depression 4 years ago. My psychiatrist spotted bipolar 2 right off the bat. With help of medication (Trileptal and Celexa) along with counseling with my psychologist, I feel like I'm on the path to stabilization. At least with Trileptal, it's seen as anti-epileptic. I would like to be on Zoloft to help me with anxiety, but I want to wait until my mood is stabilized with the Trileptal. I'm a pre-nursing major and am looking forward to nursing school and joining the ranks. I see my bp2 (what I call bipolar disorder II) as a chronic illness that I must manage with medication, good sleep, good nutrition, exercise/stress reduction, and counseling. For me, as someone who is newly diagnosed, it's reassuring to know that there are others in the nursing profession that also have bipolar disorder. I, too, wish there wasn't as much stigma associated with mental illnesses.

MicroB for me! I think I'm more excited about microbiology than A&P 1. Interesting enough is that I'm going to have the same lecture prof for both MicroB and A&P 1...and the 2 classes are back to back.
