Hello All,
After this semester I only have 2 more pre-requisites to fulfill before I can apply to my absn program (technically 4 but 2 can be in progress when I apply). I'm wondering if it would be wise to take my TEAS this summer while I have a break from classes or wait until I'm close to submitting my application? Thoughts?
Thanks!

Studying for the TEAS was helpful for me. I would recommend taking it at a time when you can devote time to studying for it. Hoping you have great success!
Did you use the study package offered by ATI (TEAS V Study Package) or something else?
I did purchase the ATI study guide, and both sets of tests on their site as well. I also used two aps.... Pocket prep TEAS and TEAS math. Plus anytime I came across a concept on any of those I wrote it down and then looked it up online. I studied for 3 months Solid, which might have been too much for some...I had not seen some of that material EVER and some not in 20 - 30 years. I don't regret it at all. Happy studying!

Study and take it as soon as you can to "get it over with." I believe some schools have a time limit, though. Make sure it is within a year of applying to nursing school. Good luck!

You'll generally want it complete before you apply to programs, and I agree that having the time to devote to studying is really nice. I liked the ATI TEAS V manual (didn't get anything else with it). That was sufficient for me, and I scored well.

Good day, aposseadesse:
I took the TEAS V before all my prerequisites were complete; I was glad to get it over and done with. The main mistake I made is scheduling it for right after semester finals; so that did not leave a lot of study time.
Thank you.

I plan on waiting til my prereqs are done. I have also heard to make sure it's done at least 2 months before your application is due to be submitted to allow for it to process. I'm going to dedicate as much time to it as I can. Although I will be in a lactation consultant course and doing clinicals for that it will be hectic. I am going to start after taking chem 2 this fall.

I would caution to make sure you have certain prereqs done before taking it- anatomy and physiology, and microbiology especially for the science section. Other than that, take it when you feel ready and prepared!
I'm finishing physiology now ...taking micro in the fall and anatomy in the spring of next year. Are they pretty heavily covered in the TEAS? More than one could study for ahead of time?
Luckily in the program I am applying to has no limit on the number of times applicants take the test.

Ummm I'm trying to remember. I took it in February while I was concurrently taking my A&P 2 class, and I definitely remember there being at least a few questions where I thought to myself, "oh we just covered that in AP!" And probably more I'm not remembering. There's also plenty of other, easier sci questions but that was my experience. So, YMMV and others opinions may differ, but I definitely found it helpful to have had that background first.

take it now while you have a break....gives you some time to study and gives you time to retake it later if you decide you need to retake it for a higher score
