swollen lips...should I reschedule interview?

Published

I'm out of ideas of what to do. Over the weekend I went out and bought myself a really nice suit and prepared myself for my interview for tomorrow, Tuesday.

However, it was a bad day yesterday. I won't go too much into details but I got smacked in the face and my upper lip has been swelling since yesterday! thank goodness there's no bruise!!!I don't know if my swelling lips will go down by tomorrow. Has anyone ever called to reschedule an interview? I look pretty funky... scary too. This is so bad. What do you think?

I would probably Ice that lip as much as I can over the next 24 hours and go to the interview anyway. If it still looks bad tomorrow, you can explain it when you arrive. It really is not something most employers would look down on you for.

I do not think that I would reschedule the interview. I would explain to the interviewer that I got hit in the mouth by a whatever you got hit by. We have all been there so I do not think it should make a difference.

Ice the lip, and hope for the best. Don't cancel the interview, though. If it's still swollen, you can always smile, and apologize when you greet the interviewer. Just explain that your lip was in the wrong place at the wrong time. :)

Best wishes!

Hey bring a decent picture of what you normally look like so they know you won't scare tha pt if you look that bad...just kidding but like everyone else said don't rescheduele just ice the lip, and explain the situation if you need to :-) hope you lip goes down though.

If anything, the lip is something to remember you by. If you sense the manager is a jokester of sorts, you can say you got discount lip injections :)

I would go. It could bring some levity to an otherwise tense/nervous situation. Itcould serve as an ice breaker to set you at ease at beginning of interview by you cracking a joke about it Therefore you address the situation upfront and can get you worries about appearance out of the way and ten proceed to concentrate on the task at hand--landing a second interview or job offer.

I think it is OK to go ... but practice a nice way to explain it. But be careful not to give them too much information about how it happened if that in any way could be used against you. Nobody wants to hire an employee who is going to be calling out sick a lot because of a troubled homelife or tendency towards carelessness.

For example, if it was a freak accident ... say so and laugh it off. If you are the victim of domestic abuse, that is something you wouldn't to divulge at a job interview. (But please get help if that's the case.)

Good luck on your interview.

Oaky, seriously, if I interviewed a nurse who came in with a big lip and laughingly, in good humor, told us that his/herher best bud accidentally elbowed him/her in the lip, and then moved on and did fine in the interview....I might find it kind of funny and it might tip the scales in your favor. Someone who could laugh a little at themselves, who wasn't so vain that a swollen lip bothered you, you know what I mean?

However, if you came in, slathered in makeup to try to cover it up, or made a huge deal about it, or told me that "I was simply minding my own business at a bar with friends when someone hit me" it would totally negatively impact my thoughts on you.
