supplemental income

I'm thinking I need to get a PRN job to supplement by school nurse income. Any one else here work PRN somewhere outside of the school? If so, what type of PRN jobs do you have? I'd only be available to work 1, maybe 2 weekends a month outside of school, so I'm sure this will hinder me with a lot of potential employers.

I do Home Health - pick up a couple of weekend days a month. in the summer our district holds an open enrollment for new district families - we can pick up extra hours during that time - easy money just verifying immunizations and entering into our computer system.

I work part time for a large Health facility keeping the medical staff certified in CPR. I usually have a class every week and more during breaks and summer. It pays great and I get to pick the dates. It makes some days really long (working 7-4 at the school and 5-11 pm in the classroom).

Private Duty Nursing (shift work in the patient's home).

Especially since your availability is weekends, you shouldn't have any problem picking up a few shifts per month. And since most of the clientele is pediatric, that's right in your wheelhouse, too.

I work at a summer camp when we are off, since I bring a child I don't get paid as much. But it works out to 3K for 9 weeks - not sure how much the pay is without a child (at least I don't pay the $11,000 tuition for the camp). I am considering cruise ships for future summers.

Just a heads-up in case you don't already know, cruise ships require 2-3 years of relatively recent critical care experience, including ACLS and PALS.

I work every other Saturday on the floor at the hospital (I worked there full time prior to getting the school nurse job). I started out last year doing every other Friday and Saturday, which worked out for the first four months. But, I started getting burnt out, especially because I worked days at the school on Friday, then I'd go to the hospital and work the night shift, so I dropped down to the two shifts a month. There is ALWAYS the opportunity to pick up extra shifts, so if I felt the urge or needed some extra cash, the hospital gig could provide that.

I've thought about picking up a few weekend shifts with the local hospital, but they require at least 6 shifts per month for PRN employees. There is NO WAY I could work full-time at the school and then do six 12 hr. shifts there too.
