I'm thinking I need to get a PRN job to supplement by school nurse income. Any one else here work PRN somewhere outside of the school? If so, what type of PRN jobs do you have? I'd only be available to work 1, maybe 2 weekends a month outside of school, so I'm sure this will hinder me with a lot of potential employers.

I work for Home Health during the summer months. I don't do much extra during the school year, as i'm busy enough with my kids things.

I have a part time job working every other weekend at a skilled nursing facility. I worked there full time before starting as a school nurse.
It's difficult because during the school year I work Monday-Friday at the school and then Saturday and Sunday at the SNF and then Monday-Friday again at the school. Then I have my weekend off before the cycle starts again. So 12 days on, 2 days off, repeat. And I have to work holidays as well. This year I will work Xmas day and New Year's Eve. Next year I will work Thanksgiving, Xmas eve, and New Year's Day.
What's nice is that in the summer (or on other breaks from the school) I can pick up extra hours and make good money. I have my budget based on my salary from the school and my every other weekend at the SNF, so any extra work is bonus money. I took my kids to the beach this summer by picking up a few extra shifts so I wouldn't have to dip too far into my savings account. Unexpected repair on my car? Pick up a shift or two to cover it.
But I am exhausted most of the time... I woke up this morning and thought "Only 8 more days......"

My DH and I own a small web development business along with each of us working a full time job. It's a growing business and maybe one day will grow enough that he can work for himself and run the family farms. We have 3 beef cattle farms on top of everything else. One more kid to get through college!!
That's so cool. I have a friend who works a beef farm down in Texas and she posted pics of what they use to, um, geld(?) cattle.
Yeah...you won't find me anywhere near that process, EVER!! My one and only farm job is driving the big truck to load the hay bales on. I'm am terrified to go in the feed lots with those huge animals. (this girl was not raised on a farm), I will stand at the gate and take pictures and some times talk to the steers and the donkeys. Love the donkeys.

These are good ideas although I don't ever see myself as a farm girl. I'm more the city girl type.
I currently use hubby as my supplemental income but if I ever decided to ditch (or he decided to ditch) the extra weight I'd sure need a supplemental income because this school nursing income is the pits. But the schedule is fantastic as a mom! AND, while dd goes to this school I get half off her tuition.
I think I'd consider something outside of nursing on my other days but I'd probably realize pretty quickly that nothing else would bring in the same $$.

i worked per diem for years in administration at the local hospital. They were bought out and cleared the board so my little job went good bye. Now I'm not really doing anything, but i am always (sort of) looking. My school kind of expects me to do summer school every year and that's pretty good / easy money and supplements the summer nicely with little effort on my part. Plus without having the normal parade of kids, i get a remarkable amount of work done in a short period of time

I don't know if this applies and it isn't for everyone. It certainly isn't related to nursing. I bought a "dirty-dog" boyfriend a tow truck. I kept said tow truck and he got his new girlfriend. (Not for long I've heard). There is nothing more empowering than driving this thing with a rescued car strapped to its back! Now that's girl power!
