I just graduated from the LPN program. Acceptance is once a a year and it starts in the spring semester- january. Your grade on the entrance exam is the biggest criteria in getting into the program. I got a 94 on the pre-entrance exam. I also got all A's in my pre-requesite courses. It is a hard program and the only university in NY that has an LPN program. All other LPN schools are community colleges and tech schools and their is nothing wrong with that , but out teachers said that it gives us more of an edge. I had an amazing time so good luck to you!!!

Hi Longisland lpn, I know your post is old, but I was wondering were you able to find employment, and are you pursuing your rn? Hope you don't mind the questions, I am looking into the lpn program as well and would appreciate feedback on employment for lpns on long island. thank you!

I got my license in March because Albany took forever to process my paperwork and finally get my ATT. I got a job offer within 1 week of getting my license at a sleepaway camp upstate! I came back three weeks ago and had an amazing summer! Saw every kind of sickness, communicable disease, and lots of med passes! I sent out my resume to a lot of different places for only one week in March before I got offered the camp job.

I thought there was no use in sending out my resume because no one was going to interview me in March for a job I can only start in September. Well anyway I got a phone call in June right before I left for camp went for an interview and got the job. It is at nursing home/rehab in Nassau county. I did orientation this whole week and Monday is my last day on orientation. There are some things that are done there that are a little sketchy so I am going to give it one more week. You have to be on your toes and work fast! Giving med pass to 40 residents in a 3 hour span of time is near to impossible but time management skills like that come with time.

I am still getting phone calls for positions from my resume that I sent out only in March! LPN's will always be in demand. What I found is that a lot of people I know who went to different schools around Long Island and got there ASN cannot find any jobs!! Everybody wants a minimum of bachelors degree, and even nursing homes require RN's that have 2 years of work.

If I chose the ASN program I would still be in school as we speak and be graduating this May. But I finished school almost a year ago, and have been working for the past 4 months. I have already been accepted into the Nassau community college LPN-to-RN advanced placement program. I could have started this semester but instead will be starting this spring. I wanted to get into the swing of things at my new job first. I will have more of an edge when I graduate because I would have been working as an LPN for 2 years and that looks much better than just a new ASN grad with no expierence. I plan to start working on my RN to BSN right away. The only school in the NY metro area that has a LPN to BSN program is Molloy which is 3 years and $25,000 a year way to much money. I have no student loans and have no desire to accumulate any.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!!

Hi longisland lpn, thank you for replying. I'm so glad you are working and things are going well. You give me hope because after being rejected for rn programs I decided to pursue my LPN. I was hearing that LPN's are not being hired anymore, so I was worried. I am older with kids and would like to work soon. Can you tell me about the schedule at Farmingdale for the LPN program? Is it all day? Also, how are you enjoying working? You have been very helpful, and I hope this nursing home job works out well for you, and congrats on being accepted at NCC. I attend there, and completed my nursing prereqs there.

No problem. It was only a year ago, but I cant remember if theory was on day a week for 4 hours or two days a week. Theory was in the morning like 8 am and then we had lab for about 2-3 hours so I think it was one full day a week 8am-2pm/3 something like that. For clinical it was one day a week for 8 hours. Morning was 7am-3pm and evening was 3pm-11.

The floor I work on has a lot of psych patients that are walkie-talkies so they do not need a lot of physical typical nursing home care. They are really great! I have A LOT of fingersticks/coverage to do multiple times on one shift as well as meds. Everyone says that the floor I work on is the toughest floor in the facility and everyone runs away from it. I figure if i could do it and do it well then it would be great experience!!

Thank you longislandLPN, you are so helpful!

I too have applied for the LPN program as a transfer student. I noticed you said your pre entrance score was 94. Would that be the total score printed fron the PAX NLN pre exam. Just wondering, I'm having alittle trouble figuring out what they look at. My total score at the top of results page that printed is 109. Is that the same as what your refering to?

I also applied to the lpn program at farmingdale for January 2012. I'm so anxious to find out. The admissions counselor said we should know before Thanksgiving which would mean this week.

I do not exactly remember where the grade was i'm sure it was at the top. I dont know if it was your grade on the exam or the percentile. I'm pretty sure it was out of 100 I don't know if you could have gotten more than that.
