Suny farmingdale lpn program

Published

Anyone currently attending Farmingdale LPN program? What was your grades for the 3 preclinical courses? What was your score on the pax exam? What is the program like? I am looking to transfer to this school so any information that you have is appreciated.

Letters went out today. We will find out soon.

Hi longislandlpn, I am happy to say that I got into the program. I was wondering what to expect, I am very nervous and excited. I did not get into nassau, but at least I am on my way. Also, can you tell me the cost of the program, I have a loan but if I can swing it on my own, I'd rather do that. I know you are staring nassau soon, you must be excited as well, and how is work? To all those waiting good luck, and I hope to meet you as my classmates.

Congratulations!!! I am so happy for you!! Looking back on it the year went by really fast, it sure did not while in the program. It was about $2,700 with all the fees and what not for each semester. This includes the summer session as well so the total cost is around $9,000. We only used one very big test book and lab book so you do not have to buy textbooks for every semester except for pharmacology. The program is intense and the first semester is make it or brake it. We started of with 30 people in our class and by the end of the spring semester about 10 people failed out. so study hard and make a study group with people in your class!! Using NCLEX questions for the topics you are learning in class helped me out. There are four multiple choice answers for each question on the tests and all of those answers are correct however you have to choose which is the most important of all the correct answers--Critical thinking!! Welcome to nursing!!

I would start studying vital signs, contact precautions and basic fundamental nursing knowledge now! There is one week break between spring and summer semester. Summer is intense 2 days a week of 8 hour clinicals instead of one day like the other semesters. You have the whole month of August off so that is good. Pharmacology is tough! You will take that the last semester! I hope you keep in touch and let me know how school and the program is going. Good luck!!

I am very excited to start Nassau. It is a really great and hard nursing program, with an amazing reputation. So is Farmingdale! I would have done the LPN to RN at Farmingdale, but my LPN class was the first class that they inacted the new rule that you have to work as an LPN for three years. I did not want to wait 3 years that is part of why I'm doing Nassau's LPN to RN.

Work is going well I am working 5 days a week, and mostly on the hardest floor at my facility! Once I start Nassau in January I will probably only work 3 or 4 days a week.

YaaaY!!! I was also accepted to the LPN Program at Farmingdale. I was tentatively accepted to Nassau. I have to go in two weeks for an interview at Nassau so not sure if I'm definitely in or not. Right now my focus is on Farmingdale since thats a sure thing. So exciting!!

Thank you longislandlpn, I sent in my $100, and I'm waiting to find out about orientation. Is there a separate orientation for the lpn program, or is it the same one for everyone? I'm not clear on that, because when I follow the guide for admit students, it says to register for orientation, but I called Admissions and they said letters are going out about orientation, so I'll just wait a bit more. Did you already have a degree, or was this your first? I'm just curious, this is my second go around. Did you always want to be a nurse? Sorry for all the questions, but you just have been so supportive and helpful. I will keep in touch about the program, because I see you are full of great advice!

Congratulations MissB!:yeah:

Thanks so much Virgomoon!!

I asked one of the admissions counselors and they said the orientation is Jan 11th. Not sure if i heard her correctly b/c that seems so far away. Guess we will find out soon.

There is a separate orientation just for the LPN program. They will send you a letter of when and where it is. As far as Pharmacology (3rd semester) you will be in a class with ASN, and BSN students. Also there is a medication administration calculation class that is only 1 credit and there may be some nursing other nursing students there. Dosage calculations are important because there is a test you have to take every semester in theory and if you fail you take a makeup a week after and if you fail it again you are out of the program. This is done every semester so know you calculations!

I have my associates degree from Nassau in liberal arts, I've known I wanted to be a nurse since probably 2008 when I started working at a pediatric neurologist's office. I did my pre-reqs at Nassau and got into several nursing programs for the fall of 2009. I got into Molloy's nursing program, but it was a lot and I did not want to take out a loan, some suny schools upstate, hunter, and a school overseas. I was all packed and ready to go and then life happened. I was unable to start in the fall of 2009 so I decided instead of waiting another year I can do Farmingdale's LPN in January- thankfully I applied. I am 23 so nursing is my first career and hopefully will be a long one. If I can turn back time I would have applied and jumped into a BSN program right after highschool. Ofcourse I was a stupid teenager back then.

Virgomoon,

So funny, i just received a packet from Farmingdale today. Orientation is January 11, 2011. The packet has info on the uniform, health form, etc. SO EXCITED!!! :D

Did you get yours?

Hi Miss B, yes I received my packet also, so that is a relief! Now I wonder since orientation is in January, does that mean we can't register or go for advisement? I have a question for every question! I guess things will clear up soon, I did send in my $100.00 fee, so that is out of the way. Longislandlpn, thank you for sharing. You are very mature for someone so young!, and I know about being a stupid teenager, I have many regrets. I always say youth is wasted on the young. But at least we are all on the right path. Miss b if you are accepted to Nassau, what will you do? I hope you don't mind my asking, Its great that they have you tentatively accepted, I think that is a good sign.

Hi Virgomoon! How is everything going so far? I'm sure you have learned so much and seen so much so far! let me know how everything is!

Hi Longislandlpn,

I have learned alot and I am still getting used to my schedule, and the work, and the exams. I am not looking forward to 2 day clinicals in summer. Is it as demanding in summer as it is in spring? At least my Professors are great, and my class is small only 18, and so far we are all still in the program. How are you doing at nassau, I'm sure you must be doing well, at least you have lpn experince behind you, and I'm sure you're great at writing careplans. How is the program there? It is great to hear from you. Take care!
