SUNY-Downstate summer '09--Introduce yourselves please!

Nursing Students General Students

Published

From the pre-nursing board there were a number of us waiting to hear from Downstate, and by now quite a few have been accepted!

So please, introduce yourselves here in the Nursing Student forum, and let's continue the discussion as we prepare to start classes in 3 months.

Where are you holding so far? Medical clearance, CPR, supplies, figuring out your finances and schedules for the next year... let's discuss!

I'm planning on taking my CPR class online from onlineAHA.org and then going to a skills session once I move up to Brooklyn in May...it's $17.50 for the BLS class.

Wow! That's great. I didn't really shop around, but the class I'm taking cost $80.

the cpr l took last year was $80 too. when l visited downstate last month, one of the current students told me that we might not be using all the items were required to buy i.e. health tote and some of the textbooks.

in that case i think i will wait to purchase until i'm sure we need it. i've had enough with laying out $$$ for "required" school supplies we never use.

wow, when they said it's really tough to find parking down there they meant it... there is none!

suny has it's own parking garage for it, but the waiting list is about 2 years. i circled around but did not find any parking lots i could pay for. may be they look different--i was looking for the signs like those in manhattan.

anyway, i walked 7 blocks so i even managed to squeeze in my morning exercise! :pumpiron:

yep, the bookstore is pretty darn unimpressive. i ordered the uniform as well and a health tote, the bookstore manager said it was a requirement, so i had to.

only 2 months left!

Hi everyone. Is anyone looking for private student loans? I am accepted the Stafford loans but it is not enough to live off of so I have to go through private student loans also. I spoke to a few banks and was able to get a decent rate but it is not fixed. Is anyone having to borrow from a bank or any other source? Any suggestions?

Out of curiousity, when did you guys recieve your acceptance letters....I'm still waiting to hear something.... :-(

I received mine towards the end of February.

I got a call today that my polio vaccination record is missing and I won't be able to register without it...

I had the vax as an infant but the records cannot be found now. I was not born in the U.S. and have no idea how to go about tracking down the record (if it still exists) and I am not interested in being re-vaccinated. Maybe I can get a doctor's letter that he doesn't recommend a repeat vaccination.

your doctor can run blood tests to confirm your immunity. But I think polio is one of the ones you have to get every 10 years or so, I got a booster a couple of years ago, before I moved abroad, even though I has it as a child.

good luck

kiera

I got my acceptance letter the end of February.

Chaya, you will need to get blood work done for a polio titer to prove that you already have immunity.

Chaya,

I did not get a call yet, but I have the same situation!

My physician had left the Polio vaccination dates blank on the form, and when I asked why, he said that it was not required and I did not need it. I too was born outside US and no records have been saved.

I guess the school will contact me later than you, because I brought in the forms just this Monday.

But when they called, did they say what can you do at this point to resolve this?
