SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University ABSN 2021-2022

Published

Hi everyone,

I've started this thread so we can discuss and share our experiences applying to SUNY's ABSN program for 2021. Being that the application period just opened, I’m sure we can all benefit from sharing information in regards to the process.

Best of luck to those applying!

I am definitely not optimistic and have not been this whole time, considering my stats, but has anyone had any updates recently? Seems like they would likely be getting somewhat close to filling up the class by now…

So I know a lot of us are on multiple threads here and I just wanted to give an update on my conundrum, haha, but I was accepted to the NYU ABSN program today and feel glad for that! but it is so expensive, and I'm still hoping to get some answers from Downstate because cost wise it's clearly my best choice, and I am not sure if it makes sense to contact them and let them know since I was accepted somewhere else I'm hoping for a decision from them either way. It makes me so nervous to imagine getting accepted at Downstate somehow, even off a waitlist, and I already accepted the offer from NYU. oof. Probably pointless to try but I'm so anxious since I only have a week for the NYU deposit if I go that route. Regardless, I wish we all could get answers. Maybe they've already filled the majority of the spots?

In one of the information sessions, they mentioned that there are 90-100 seats and I don't believe they've accepted that many people yet. So, there's still hope. I hope you hear back soon though! I had to turn down my seat to NYU because the financial aid package they gave me was terrible

I doubt they have filled the class yet but I agree this is so frustrating. my application has been in the same "file forwarded to program for review" since November. How are we supposed to plan our summers or do anything when they take so long!

Stay encouraged, guys! The wait is definitely long but I'm sure you'll hear from the school soon.

At this point, I've already assumed that they tossed my application out the window, so I'm not really expecting anything good anymore :') Glad to know that we're all on the same boat waiting.

It was May 8th that I received a rejection last year. And the program was beginning end of May. Ugh. I really hope they don't ride this into the Summer. I need to know if I need to apply for jobs instead! C'mon SUNY!

Hey all,

Just want to say that I feel for all the people who haven't heard anything.  I guess there is still a chance we will here something, right?  I applied with a TEAS score in the 90s (and with 100s on two sections), a 4.0 science GPA, and a 3.92 overall GPA.  I have volunteer experience in a doctor's office.  I even have a Master's Degree.  The one thing is that I applied late (but still before the applications were due).  I would like to think the application pool was just very exceptional.  My status still says "File Forwarded to Program for Review."  But I think that means it was never looked at... because I believe when they view your application, the status changes.

Best of luck to everyone out there - I've been lurking for months now reading everyone's messages.  And congratulations to the ones who got into the program!

Well I submitted my final Spring grades in a last ditch effort to get even an interview.

Anyone have an idea how long it will take for them to acknowledge the grades? They have to be received by Sunday and tomorrow is the last business day so I am stressing.

Mine says: "Application Status: Under Program Review"

I am missing two courses (currently taking) and I completed my application in January

Wow! I am surprised at their silence. It doesn't seem anyone has heard anything in weeks. Has anyone tried to reach them? I haven't received replies to my emails, not even the standard auto-reply.

I went to an information session and asked about when we might be hearing back and she basically said it could be as late as august! I think they must be really overwhelmed with applications or something....super frustrating though because I'm afraid to make Summer plans in case I get a call and need to be on zoom the next day LOL
