SUNY Downstate Accelerated BSN june 2011 class

hi all

has anyone received a response yet from Downstate for the 2011 ABSN Program? Since it starts in June I would have guessed decisions were already made, but havent heard anything yet.

I have a few friends that graduated from the accelerated nursing programs at NYU, Pace, and Columbia and all have had varying experiences. I think each school presents it's sets of pros and cons. All my friends that are in the nursing field have told me to do what's best but at the end of the day, passing your NCLEX and your hands-on skills are really what sets you apart from others. Personally for me, I was ecstatic to be accepted into Downstate because of the price tag and the proximity to where I live. I have my Masters from NYU and although it is a prestigious school, I will be paying off student loans for the rest of my life (slight exaggeration) and it too had its downfalls in the program. I came in pretty cautious about the administration at Downstate based on prior posts but I have had nothing but positive experiences with my correspondence with Admissions, Student Health, and Financial Aid.

Mjrarmada Congrats on your acceptance! Do you know how to start a new thread? I think it would be great to start a new one for all that are starting in the in June.

Hi, good feedback. To post a new thread go to the region and discussion you'd like it to go under, so New York then NY nursing programs discussion. You'll see all the threads listed and then above you'll see "new thread" in a blue icon, click on that and you will be able to start a new thread. That's a great idea!

Hey.. hello Mjrarmada and wingchick...thanks for responding to my message guys.. Yes I agree we should try to start a thread to get to know one another before classes start. Yes I decided to go to downstate. I am very excited and am also so happy to finally hear some positive things about downstate and the process/program...so far honestly everything has been a nice transition for me because instead of dealing with admission and staff over the phone I just go directly in person and everyone has been very helpful. I know I received advice from a former downstate student stating we all need to become close friends quickly because helping each other through this program is vital and necessary to not drive ourselves insane...since we are all in the same boat, as I am sure we will all be studying together. I am not familiar with this website..so i dont know how to do much else beside respond to the current thread...i was thinking of starting a facebook group for the june 2011 students to join and get to know one another. A 2010 downstate nursing class exists so I found that pretty cool. I look forward to meeting you guys and everyone else...as well as working together....my name is Andriana by the way...hope to hear from you soon!!

So i tried creating a fb group..and apparently I need to request "friends" to join it otherwise it wouldnt allow me to create the group..so I would need at least the three of our names to begin it....hopefully we recruit the most out of 50 students attending this year before June 1...let me know what you guys think?? or if you want to do it!! ttys

fyi, those of us who got in off alternate list this year got phone calls on the first day of orientation

You were an alternate for this incoming June class? And you received a phone call already? (guess that means ut's a no from Downstate for me lol) but... Do you mean orientation or Registration? The letter told us we would hear by registration, which i believe just passed or is in the beginning of May.

Judging from the other Downstate thread on here, others have already registered for classes. I'm confused as to exactly when is the last time we (alternates) might here about acceptance into the program.
