SUNY Downstate ABSN 2023-2024

Updated:   Published

I've started this thread so those who are applying or applied for the SUNY Downstate ABSN 2023 can talk about the process, acceptance, information etc. I haven't seen anyone talking about this cycle of applications which is making me super nervous so hopefully some of you are out there and want to discuss what's going on.

Goodluck to everyone applying!

Hey guys! Promised myself I would post if I got accepted and I did today!! I'm super excited if anyone is wondering my stats are:

Undergrad GPA AND Science GPA were pretty similar in the range of 3.7-3.8. My TEAS I scored 90+ in both math and reading, science I scored my lowest at 78. I have more than 1 year of medical experience and really tried to submit a stellar statement and asked for LOR from those that knew me best. I submitted my application in the last week of January and received an invite for an interview shortly after.

I was accepted!! I submitted my application on 1/28. I had my interview on 2/2 and heard back on 2/3! My prereq GPA is 3.8 but I have 2 more prereqs I am completing now! My science GPA is 3.8 as well! On my TEAS, I got a 94 in math, 82 in reading, and 89 in science! In regard to my experience, I was a laboratory technician in a medical office for a year and I am currently working at an OBGYN office as a medical assistant!

I was accepted as well. I submitted my application around 1/23 but didn't have my TEAS results until 1/31. Got a call for interview on 2/2 and it scheduled the same day. Got my acceptance 2/3. I have a 3.5 GPA and got a 90 overall on my TEAS (100 math, 95 sciences and 86 reading). I do currently work in an Internal Medicine office! I'm so excited and congrats to everyone who got in!!

Hi. On YouTube there a girl who records her experience with pace. Overall doesn't sound bad but I've seen complaints on their administrations and they say it's disorganized.( keep in mind they will say this about a lot of accelerated programs- but pace seems to have more complaints?) Also their NCLEX pass rate in the city is around 80% which is significantly lower than Downstate and other ABSN programs which are 90 and up. It's an 11 month program at pace so it will be stressful on top of the administration mishaps. If you think you can do the 11 months go for it. I picked downstate because it is cheaper and higher NCLEX pass rate + diversity if students. I visited the pace campus and loved it but not much diversity. The schedules are about the same. They both say two days classes and two days of clinicals/ labs. Downstate security is always there to look out for students and keep in mind you can drive or leave with a group of students since we will mostly have same schedules. Also downstate is hybrid right now so some classes are online.

Hey, Cindy basically summed up why I chose Suny Downstate too. I'm not really concerned about the commute because it took me an hr to get to my undergrad school too. Keep in mind lectures are all on 1 day and it's online for the convenience of students and it was requested by the students from previous cohorts. There are shuttles that take you to clinicals affiliated with Downstate like the Maimonides Hospital.

I did get accepted to Pace last year and pulled my application because the program was way too fast paced and they offered no financial help and it is very very expensive. I believe a previous student said it's around 70k excluding textbooks, uniform, etc.

If you missed the ABSN info session (I don't think they did one for this year) maybe try calling the office and see if you can ask questions.

do you know anything about clinical placements? its good to know (some) classes are online. thats definitely takes some stress out of the commute and gives more personal time.

They extended the deadline again till the end of April! I still haven't interviewed yet so I'm guessing it's because I'm still taking my last prereq (microbio). Did anyone else interview while still having classes in progress? My app still stays program review.

I know a few people, including myself, did the interview with prerequisites in progress. I submitted the application and within 2-3 days it said faculty screening assigned. Got called for interview the next day after status changed and got my acceptance the day after the interview. Stay positive!!

Yeah same. I am taking a math course at BMCC and they requested my BMCC transcript. I uploaded it immediately on the 28th and they haven't marked it as received yet and it has a March 6th due date.

Oh I'm at BMCC too I did all my science classes there. I've uploaded lots up updated versions of the transcript from there but I don't think they've reviewed it. Apparently it says it's due end of May.

Hey guys,

For those that have been accepted, did you guys complete your pre-matric checklist? I completed everything that they asked for but they haven't updated my health forms section yet. Just wanted to know if this is the same for anyone else or if I should email them to get it checked off
