SUNY Downstate ABSN 2023-2024

Updated:   Published

I've started this thread so those who are applying or applied for the SUNY Downstate ABSN 2023 can talk about the process, acceptance, information etc. I haven't seen anyone talking about this cycle of applications which is making me super nervous so hopefully some of you are out there and want to discuss what's going on.

Goodluck to everyone applying!

Hi everyone,

I am so thankful to have been accepted to both SUNY Downstate and Columbia for their accelerated nursing programs. Columbia was definitely my top choice but after receiving my financial aid package I'm a bit torn on what to do and was hoping for some advice. any input from current students/grads is appreciated.

Columbia: extremely expensive tuition (around 80k WITH financial aid), obviously has the prestige, really good program w/ more clinical hours (1000, most nursing programs have 500, more prepared new grads), better hospital affiliations & connections

SUNY Downstate: very affordable (~20-25k, Sheesh), also reputable, I've heard complaints from a lot of students abt disorganization but I'm not sure if that's enough to shy away from such a good financial offer.

I don't really want to be suffering paying off loans and debt but I also don't want to have a poor quality education. I do plan on going to further schooling after working as an RN for a few years (not sure if I wanna do NP or CRNA yet) so I also have to keep that in mind. more school = more debt. I'm just so stuck on what to do and really would appreciate any help or advice from anyone !!

I am not a current student, but I sent you a message. Funding nursing school is something I am thinking about as I will be applying this year for 2024.

Hey guys, I'm here reading all of your post and first off, CONGRATSSS! I'm so happy for you guys.

I literally applied right before the deadline, and I am stresseddd. LOL! I'm checking my application status like every hour. I have 0 checks next to my action items. UGH!! Patience, patience.

Anywho, how is the post-acceptance process? Did you guys have any meetings yet? What are some of the things you guys are looking forward to?

Hey did you apply before the January deadline? I heard they moved the deadline up to April.

Do not worry about your checklist!! Nothing on my checklist was checked off besides my TEAS Exam after I uploaded the score and still nothing is checked off after being accepted LOL. You just have to wait for that interview call.

Post-acceptance you get this pre-metric checklist you have to go through and get everything done. We haven't gotten any other updates yet such as meeting dates/ advisement. I believe orientation is in August and we speak with someone about classes in July.

Heyyy, I applied last minute to the April deadline ?

& LOL, okay got it! I'm like OMG, why is nothing checked yet.

Woww, July is just around the corner. It's nice that they gave you guys the checklist way in advance.

Hey guys,

For those that were accepted to the program did you guys receive an email today stating that Health Forms needed to be submitted and if you already submitted email them back with the date you submitted it?

I received this email twice already even though I submitted everything back in February. They won't even let me know if everything is good or if I need to submit more information/ get more vaccines. I also don't know why they're telling us to submit through medicat when we don't have our logins yet. Wanted to know if anyone was in the same boat ?

I also got an email, and I think a few others are having the same problem also.

Two: Premium members may create a "club" by clicking on the Breakroom link in the yellow bar to the left of this page. Then click on "Create A New Club" in the green bar at the top of the page, and follow instructions.

Just an update. They finally got back and told me they're taking a little long reviewing everyone's submissions because of high volumes of inquiries. I think they're starting to go through everyone's health forms now so look out for an email if you didn't hear back yet because I need to submit additional stuff.

Hey guys,

I just finished my last prereq with another A! They actually checked it off on my checklist, however they changed my status from "program review" to "file forwarded to program for review" which literally means the same thing LOL.

I applied in December but I'm still waiting on an interview call. I feel like they're either super backed up or slow (or both). Anyone else in the same boat?

What's funny is I got a call for an interview a couple days after I just posted that and got in! I definitely didn't know the matriculation checklist was due a week after you get the offer! Does anybody know when the background check/drug test is due?

Congrats! You should get the background check done asap. It's done online so just get it over with. I didn't have to do the drug test... yet... I don't know if anyone else did it. I think they're going to wait closer to the start of the semester to have us do it. I also recommend getting your health forms done cause as you can see from my previous messages they take a very very long time to go through them and if you miss something you have to get it fixed/ completed asap. Some people went in person to submit there's just so it can get cleared quickly
