SUNY Downstate ABSN 2020-2021

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone,

I've started this thread so we can discuss and share our experiences applying to SUNY's ABSN program for 2020. This is my second time applying. I waited till the very last day of the deadline to submit my application last year (I knowww) since I had taken the TEAS and had just gotten the results. However, I've already submitted my application for the upcoming year and hope to get a call for an interview. Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Sidenote: I really like the upgrade they did to the online application. So much more user-friendly.

Hi everyone, I am still waiting to be called for an interview (or for a rejection letter). I only have micro left to take in the spring. I'm getting a bit discouraged although I applied late and took the TEAS late (mid-late November).

Same here. Still waiting for a rejection email or an interview. I took the TEAS late november before they extended the deadline and was grateful bc I submitted my application early December. The first week of January I received an email to upload a missing document, which I did. But, I had to call bc for some reason my checklists did not show I submitted my transcript. Anyway I am still waiting for them to call me. I am done with all my prereqs; I just wished I applied earlier.

I'm so nervous. I had my interview right before Christmas. I didn't get my final grades from fall semester until 12/26 and my application didn't update to reflect those fall grades until last week. As of last week my application is complete, I have no prereqs left, and I had my interview already. Of course I'll be upset if I get rejected but I just want an answer. I feel like I’m in purgatory waiting for an answer.

If we still haven’t heard back after interview, does it mean we will be rejected? I had my interview on Jan 8. Just curious and wanted to know my chances.

Does anyone know if there are bike racks/parking at SUNY Downstate?

I have certainly been able to lock up my bike while heading in for interviews and such, but I do not know if there is indoor parking for bikes anywhere. I am likely relying on bike transport for my full time there, so I am hoping so.

Did anyone here take Math CLEP? If so, which exact test?

@ToBeANurse yupp I took the Algebra CLEP and statistics DSST

I wonder when interviews are over? and how many seats are left?

From the looks of it, they probably interview 8-16 people per week. When I interviewed last week, I think they said they filled about 1/4 to 1/2 of the spots already, but I could be misremembering.

In the CAQs section of the application it says "Interviews for qualified Nursing Candidates: December 2019–January 2020" so I guess we have until the end of the month?

My application status is removed when i go to my checklist and it shows nothing. It used to say screening in progress. Does that mean I’m no longer a candidate? I hope not ?☹️

Hello,

Someone mentioned previously that the program includes online classes. Is this for the general absn program or for the honors students? How many online classes will have to be taken for this program?

They should really inform prospective students about this aspect of the program. I was under the impression that all the classes would be in person/classroom setting.
