Hi everyone,
I've started this thread so we can discuss and share our experiences applying to SUNY's ABSN program for 2020. This is my second time applying. I waited till the very last day of the deadline to submit my application last year (I knowww) since I had taken the TEAS and had just gotten the results. However, I've already submitted my application for the upcoming year and hope to get a call for an interview. Looking forward to chatting with you all.
Sidenote: I really like the upgrade they did to the online application. So much more user-friendly.
@NurseDan that's so bizarre! I have a feeling they will reach out to you, it would be shocking for them not to with your grades and test scores.
I noticed you're in the Stony Brook thread as well so hopefully we hear back from them soon! I'm still checking my email religiously even though they told us about the delay ?

If you are accepted to Stony Brook, do you plan on attending there instead of Downstate? If so, what are the factors that would induce you to choose SB over Downstate?
@adkhopeful2 Stony Brook is my top choice due to location and duration of the program. I'm from Nassau County and ideally I would like to work at a hospital on Long Island in the future. Stony Brook's program has more Long Island based clinical locations, whereas Downstate is primarily Brooklyn/NYC. The commute would be easier for me as well. I'd much rather drive and commute east than take the train and commute west. I used to work in Manhattan so I already despise the LIRR and will avoid at all costs. Additionally, Stony Brook is 12 months as opposed to Downstate's 15 months. Granted it's only a 3 month difference, but for me the sooner the better.
These are both exceptional programs so I think choosing one over the other is more of a personal preference over anything else!
Congrats guys! I suggest preparing for the interview by being able to articulate why you want to become a nurse, what nursing means to you, why you are a good candidate, any challenges or past adversity you've overcome, etc. I wouldn't try to prepare memorized answers but just think these bigger questions through before you get there.

@lobo92, yeah we're pretty similar! I actually submitted my app in full (minus 1 prerequisite, and teas) on the day they launched the new portal (8/29). My recommendations were submitted just a few days later, teas uploaded on 11/17, prereq uploaded on 12/18.. but it's now been with the review committee since 12/2... total silence ?
