I wanted to start a thread about the upcoming application process for SUNY Downstate ABSN. There is a fantastic thread for the previous round of applications last year, and I thought this would be a good forum for us to share any information that we might have about Downstate's admission process as we go through it together. Good luck everyone!!!
@Ecclesng89 The only thing that you really need to bring is a pen, as there is a writing portion at the end of the interview. I suggest bringing a bottle of water and mints (just in case). The interview can last for up to an hour and half - my interview round did! Good luck to you!
Anyone taking prerequisites at LaGuardia Community College or Kingsborough Community College- the only two CUNY schools that end in June instead of May? If I get in, I’m afraid this might cause a problem since the program starts in May. I was told at the open house by an admissions counselor that they are aware of CUNY semester schedules, but maybe they didn’t realize that a couple schools run differently...
@nursingla I asked admissions to be sure. Those requirements are to be submitted 2 weeks from the offer of acceptance - not 2 weeks from when you accept. It was nagging me at the possibility I might be wrong, so just wanted to let you know! What other schools are you waiting to hear back from?
@studentRN218 thank you so much! It’s been nagging at me too, I’m waiting to hear back from Mount Sinai, but it’s a lot more expensive than Downstate. The only thing holding me back from accepting downstate is that I heard the area’s not very safe at night, and I don’t know if anyone else will be commuting from my area

I will be commuting via MTA from Queens (Forest Hills)...Everytime I've been in the surrounding area it didn't seem that dangerous to me at least. The school is a short walk to the train and since we won't have class alone there will always be at least one other person walking towards the train with you....I also read somewhere in the student manual (idk if this is true or not) that there is a shuttle bus to/from the school and train station.
@nursingla I've had friends who have gone here and a friend who's pregnant that's currently attending the masters program here and they all have had no problems. For the most part, you just need to find a buddy to walk to the train station with and the cohort generally gets pretty close. I looked at Mt. Sinai also, but their program is fairly new and I haven't heard enough good things about them which is why I leaned more towards SUNY Downstate. Even in their forum, they seem to have trouble getting in touch with admissions to answer questions.

I am still waiting to hear from SUNY. I submitted my application on the day of the deadline. Has anyone else who submitted on the deadline heard back from admissions as yet?
