Hey Guys,
I just wanted to create a thread for those of us who are applying to the accelerated program at SUNY Brockport for Summer/2016. I have already submitted my application and I am wishing everyone the best of luck. I hope you guys get into the program you desire. I decided that I wanted to apply to Brockport because I needed a change of scenery. Coming from New York City I feel like Brockport is the financially responsible thing to do.
I am encouraging people who are currently attending the program write about their experiences and provide us with any advice as we embark on the journey of nursing school!!!
Thanks,
Ellie
The lack of snow days is definitely true. It especially sucks if you commute from the city. I almost slid into a ditch many times trying to drive to campus but hey, it's upstate NY.
OMG! that must've been traumatizing! And when you say the city I'm assuming Rochester right? I'm going to definitely need an all wheel drive car then if I go up there, I'm not sure if snow tires will help enough on my little coupe lol.
Yes, Rochester. I actually drive a small hatchback with front wheel drive and it's just about as good in the snow as my old AWD cars. I'm a Rochester native so I'm used to it.
FYI, make sure you check the app on web banner if you have access. I looked yesterday and realized that the college had me listed for the RN to BSN program. I don't have an RN license. They are correcting it and I did submit the proper secondary application to the nursing department so hopefully it won't hurt me. I emailed the nursing department to update them but haven't received anything back. My Brockport app was handwritten so I have no idea how I could have mistakenly been put for RN to BSN.
EDIT: The director of the second degree program did get back to me and said it'll be fine. She seems very nice (and actually went to the same LPN school as me). Decisions in December according to her.
The closer we get the more I freak myself out. I just received my financial aid award from University of Rochester and they didn't offer me anywhere close to enough to make it worth it. It looks like Brockport is my only option now. While I have an overall GPA of 3.69 from my first degree, my pre-req GPA is only 3.33. I'm not sure that either of those will be high enough. And I still have to take the dreaded chemistry in the spring. I guess we'll see in a few weeks.
Make sure to post if you hear anything!
I still haven't been notified whether I was accepted to Brockport period, as a transfer. I need to check online because it's already been a few weeks.
I honestly don't feel nervous or anxious I just want to know my fate lol, like hurry up so I can know where I'll be hehe. Even though I see my list of school on my dry erase board everyday, I literally put it on the back burner. Of course chemistry took some work, like all the sciences did, but I'm sure it's nothing you can't handle! I was lucky enough to have wonderful professors for all the prereqs (except the first time I took chem in undergrad lol)
you'll do fine!!
When you say the transfer application do you mean the one you see on web banner (i.e. the one that states 'nursing intent' and not the secondary application we had to send)? Because mine still states 'ready for review' as well. I don't think that'll change until they decide who is accepted to the program. I think. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I was accepted as non-matriculated for spring so I can take chem. Joy.
Heya guys! Letters in the mail soon right after Dec 1st for this school...my prior Bachelor's was in Anthropology and I just got accepted into Monroe Community College....I'm nervous if this brockport program might go too hard too fast for me bUT it does mean you get a BSN quicker... what you guys think the load be like vs a 2 yr associates? I probably go for it if they accept...good luck to us all :)

I actually did get that email but it completely slipped my mind since I was told they were about to begin reviewing apps when I called about a week after the deadline. It's good that they were nice enough to keep us updated on the process though.
My least favorite part of winter is the snow and ice (I don't mind the cold) so I'll have to get used to that
