Hey Guys,
I just wanted to create a thread for those of us who are applying to the accelerated program at SUNY Brockport for Summer/2016. I have already submitted my application and I am wishing everyone the best of luck. I hope you guys get into the program you desire. I decided that I wanted to apply to Brockport because I needed a change of scenery. Coming from New York City I feel like Brockport is the financially responsible thing to do.
I am encouraging people who are currently attending the program write about their experiences and provide us with any advice as we embark on the journey of nursing school!!!
Thanks,
Ellie

Hi!
I applied as well and am also from the city. I'm also applying to several other public schools but I'm excited about Brockport because I never went away for undergrad. I called the school last week and they said out of 140 applications they'll be accepting 40. Good luck!
Hey Zvolquez,
Thank you for taking the time to write on the forum!! That's awesome you are coming from the city. The director of the program said they have many local applicants apply. I am so nervous because I would really like to get into a nursing school. We have a better chance than last years cohort to get accepted into the program. The director told me over 200 applied for the 2015 class.
Did you have an opportunity to visit the campus? Because of my current work its hard for me to set a date to visit the school. What other schools are you applying to if you don't mind me asking?
If you don't feel comfortable please feel free to direct message me.
Good luck to you

I haven't made time to visit yet, it's not so much the drive, I just don't want to fall in love with the school and not be admitted lol. So far I applied to Stony Brook (1 yr and 2yr programs). The other schools on my list are SUNY Downstate, Concordia & Wagner (both private ), NJCU and NCC. Im holding off on submitting the applications whose deadlines are next year because I'm waiting to see what Brockport and SB decide.
what makes me nervous is my undergrad gpa of 3.17, but besides that my sciences are 4.0. I've read comments that say Brockport bases their decisions solely on GPAs but I'm not sure if that has since changed.
I couldn't apply to Lehman or Hunter because I had to retake Chem and they don't accept prerequisites that were retaken.
I am also applying to Downstate and NJCU as well. I spoke to the director and she said that they look heavily on GPA and then they look at the essay to see if you know how to follow directions and construct a well written essay. You have a strong science GPA and I am pretty sure they are going to take into account what you have done while going to school. I graduated with a 3.51 but my science is a 3.50. Just make sure you have a positive outlook and good things will come especially if you put the effort into getting into nursing school. At this point I just want to get accepted into any of the school I apply to.
Thanks for the encouraging words! I'm positive whatever is meant for me will be. Hopefully we both receive good news in the coming months.
Have you taken the HESI or the TEAS yet? I still have to

I'm glad to have found this. I also applied for the summer 2016 cohort. I was actually already accepted to the University of Rochester's accelerated bsn and paid my deposit but honestly, if Brockport accepts me I will probably choose them. The U of R is just so expensive. The only thing that makes me think that Brockport may not accept me is that I still have to take one pre-req for them (chemistry). Hopefully I'll get provisional acceptance and I can just take it in the spring. Let me know if you guys hear anything!
Haven't heard anything yet, only that they'll send decisions in December. *sigh* I was thinking of visiting the campus when the school itself accepts my transfer app. Just in case I get accepted into the program I'd rather visit now than this winter when the weather gets unbearable lol.
The campus is okay. It's in a small town about 20 minutes outside the city of Rochester. I got my first bachelors there. The nursing program actually just got a newly remodeled building with new labs so that's a plus.
Actually, I got an email from them a week or two ago saying hello and that they are currently reviewing my application. You didn't get anything like that? I hope it's a good sign. It was from the office assistant.

If you like winter, you're gonna love brockport. No such thing as snow days, just put on the skis and get to class.
