SUNY Brockport ABSN 2020

Published

Hey! Has anyone applied for the 2nd degree program at SUNY Brockport for the May, 2020 start? I haven’t seen a form yet for this upcoming cohort.

I just received an email today stating that I have been accepted. I had to pinch myself! The director had told me we wouldn’t hear back until the beginning of January, so this was pretty shocking. Did anyone else hear back?

Yes, congratulations! I also applied and received a email stating that I was accepted today. I was a little confused when I saw class of 2021 thinking that was my start date ?. But I guess the email says in a few days we will receive something by mail with the deposit.etc..so I will see then.

I also applied to MCC and GCC. I’m still waiting for MCC’s response but I did get accepted into GCC as well. I’m still deciding which one I want to do in terms of cost but it’s nice to know someone else is accepted into the program. I’ve been searching but only found old posts about Brockport so this is nice.

Congratulations as well to you, and your options! The cohort begins May 2020, but we will graduate in 2021, therefor being the class of 2021.

I applied to some out of state schools but Brockport is my first choice, mainly for financial reasons and experience speaking with the director. I did my undergrad at SUNY Oswego, but otherwise am not too familiar with the area. It sounds like you are more local, any input on Brockport’s nursing reputation, opportunities with the surrounding hospitals, or in speaking with alumni of the program? I’ve read previous threads but couldn’t find much helpful information!

Hey guys! I was accepted to Brockport's program last Thursday as well. To help answer some of Courtshot's questions, I spoke with the director of the program and she said that 95% of the accelerated nursing students have jobs before they finish the program. The last 5% are not hired because they were planning on going home instead (typically Long Island area). I haven't spoken with too many alumni, but I did know a couple people who went through Brockport's nursing program and I did not hear any serious complaints. Overall, I think Brockport's nursing reputation is solid. The students clearly have no problem getting jobs and the accelerated program's NCLEX pass rate is 93%, however it is not the most prestigious program if that is what you mean. Congrats to everyone who was accepted!

Sorry I took so long to respond but yes as aconnollyrn said, in which by the way congratulations on your acceptance, I haven’t heard anything “major” about their nursing program. It’s definitely doesn’t get the attention that U of R gets, in which I think is ridiculously expensive for no reason at all, but for the most part I personally haven’t heard anything “bad” about it. However, Brockport within its self is a good school. I actually graduated from Brockport with my Bachelors. I like the atmosphere. Everyone is welcoming and nice and talks to you, in which I can speak from experience doesn’t happen at a lot of different colleges. I don’t live in Brockport, I’m in Rochester so I do commute. I have some friends at MCC that’s currently in their nursing program in which Brockport will use some of those same hospitals for clinicals I’m told, but not certain. The feedback I heard was positive as their preceptors are nice and caring. I haven’t heard any horror stories yet so that’s good. As far as jobs I know that Rochester general offers a lot of new grad jobs however, the speciality I want I know they don’t offer to new grads so I don’t plan on staying.

Are you guys local, do y’all live far?

I am from Syracuse, which is about 2 hours east of Brockport. And that's great that you went to Brockport for undergrad! Makes things a lot easier! This is kind of random, but how is their Wi-Fi? I have heard that SUNY campuses can be really hit or miss with decent Wi-Fi. And on campus have you had a chance to see their nursing facilities, such as the labs and classrooms?

I really haven’t had any problems with their WiFi when I went to school there that I can recall. I also was a comm major so I never had a reason to go to their nursing department so I have no idea about that. However in general the classrooms are a good size. Some rooms were a little clustered but for the most part everyone wasn’t “on top” of one another. I only know how some of their rooms look from the website. In hindsight I wish I would have looked but then again I wasn’t really interested back than about nursing.

Congrats, aconnollyRN! And thank you for sharing your information about the nursing program! I am not from the area, I grew up on Long Island, went to SUNY Oswego, and have been living in a remote area of California since. It’ll be a nice long cross-country road trip back to NY for school. I love western NY though and am excited to move back there! Finding housing for May shouldn’t be too hard, considering most undergraduate students start in August with is a plus.

From what I remember at Oswego, WiFi was just fine. I graduated Dec. 2014 though. Will you be relocating from Syracuse?

Yes! I will be moving to Brockport from Syracuse. I commuted in my undergrad so I don't have a lot of experience with finding housing/apartments but hopefully it isn't too difficult to find something cheap and easy. The director of the nursing program did tell me that in January she sends out an email to all enrolled students in the program to help students who need housing find roommates and even match us up with people who have similar clinical times as us. Has everyone accepted their admission to Brockport or are you guys still making your decision?

Hey all! I know it’s a bit past due- but I also applied (right on the deadline). Haven’t been accepted yet but it’s between Brockport and U of R right now for me.

@aoi2019 Fingers crossed for you!!

@aconnollyrn I submitted my deposit a week ago! Super excited. Curious what the next steps will be. I am finishing my chemistry and sociology prereq’s at the moment but also listening to some nursing podcasts to become familiar with terminology and common health issues.

Hey everyone. Just curious if anyone can answer this for me, are you first accepted into the school and then complete another application for the ABSN?
