Hello Everyone,
I am preparing myself to apply for Summer 2018 pacesetter BSN program. We can use this forum for Summer 2018 applicants. I am in the process of taking Hesi exam. I have completed all my prerequisite courses needed for the program.
Little bit about me:
BS in Microbiology in 2005 -GPA (3.05)
MPH degree in Epidemiology in 2012-GPA (3.85)
Associate degree of Science in 2017-GPA (4.0)
Hesi test-will be taking it in August
Working full time with City Health department as an epidemiologist specialist since last five years. I am also a mom of two boys.
Got accepted to MUSC college of nursing program but declined it. Also got accepted to Johns Hopkins Entry into Masters of nursing program for Fall 2017 but had to deffer it to Fall 2018 due to financial circumstances.
Trying to apply for the in-state school due to affordable tuition as well as easy commute.
I really hope i can get into UT Health Science center pacesetter program as it's my first option as it's closest to me as well as it's affordable and one of the best programs in Texas.
I need some help please.Could I submit my application for Fall? and we take the re take the Hesi after the deadline ? I submitted an application for summer so they have my transcript and first hesi score?
And does anyone have advice to improve I got an 86
@victoriadukes what did you do to improve your score?
So basically I just read the chapter overviews of my A&P book. I cannot begin to explain how bad you need to know the muscles. I also remember seeing what type of joints are in the body like synovial, hinge, ball and joint, etc. I don't know if any of you have the HESI Pocketprep app but it's SO worth the $14 (I think that's the price). The HESI practice book is helpful with the reading and grammar sections. Do some practice exams and study the systemic overviews for each chapter.
If you can swing the drive, also apply to Sam Houston State University. They've recently moved their entire nursing program from Huntsville to The Woodlands. This is their second year in The Woodlands. They have 80 spots. I'm applying there and they are super straightforward. They admit based on an exact formula and their staff is very accessible. I know exactly where I stand with them.
A few differences from UTH:
1. They accept the TEAS rather than the HESI.
2. MMR, Varicella, Tetorifice, and three doses of HepB (or titers) are due at the time of application.
The application period for Fall 2018 opened March 1 and closes on May 1. They are pretty competitive (as most programs are these days), but a TEAS score around 87 or better and science/pre-nursing GPA's around 3.7 should get you a spot. Additionally, they do give a small applicant ranking boost for a prior bachelor's degree, an EMT certification, or an LPN or CNA license. They are VERY transparent and if you make the cut, you get a spot. It's a traditional BSN program and they don't go summers.
For those with heavy hearts, I just want to shed some light. I didn't get in with my first application to UTHealth for this past Spring 2018 semester. It's okay to be upset but please do not belittle yourself or your accomplishments up over this. I applied for this past Spring 2018 semester with a 4.0 GPA science and overall and a 92 HESI score, but still did not get accepted. I retook the HESI, made a 94, and reapplied for the Summer 2018 semester to finally get accepted. I'm telling you UTHealth's application process really does seem to be random selection in my opinion. My experience goes to show that even with good stats, that doesn't guarantee you a "shoe-in." Keep your heads held high because you've come this far and accomplished so much already. Retake a HESI or another class if you can, but I cannot stress enough to y'all to reapply for the next semester. I sincerely hope this helps anyone who feels down about not getting accepted for the Summer 2018 semester or simply waitlisted. Be proud of yourselves :)
I have a question, do you know if it will jeopardize your chances if you reapply for the fall semester while being wait-listed for summer?
I got wait-listed but the deadline for fall is in a week.

Do you have a link to where they layout the formula?
Rgo2018: Admissions Criteria
Here's the link to the website. You can dig around on the site to find the immunization criteria from here: Application
One important thing: to be considered for admission, you must first apply to Sam Houston State University through ApplyTexas and be accepted for the semester you want to begin nursing (Fall 2018). After acceptance, apply specifically to the nursing program. This took me about 4 weeks. So from today, you still have time.
They have pre-nursing/applicant walk-in appointments every morning at the Woodlands location. The pre-nursing contact person is Joanna Blythe.
Hi y'all! I have been following this thread for a long time now in hopes of applying for Summer 2018 @ UTH. I recently got denied after a period of no change in my portal (I got no denial email, just checked portal a few minutes ago). This was my first time applying at UTH with about 50+ credit hours done, including all my sciences. I also did not receive a transcript evaluation.
My stats:
Science GPA: 3.75 (1 B in A&P1 from dual credit in highschool)
Overall GPA: 3.74
Nursing Prereq GPA: 3.85
Hesi Overall: 88.0%
Reading: 90%
Grammar: 84%
Vocab: 84%
A&P: 84%
Math: 98%
My flaws could have been in my HESI scores, which individually were not as strong. I'm thinking of retaking my HESI and reapplying for the Fall 2018 semester. (Do I just fill out another application and apply again since they have all my transcripts?)
Congratulations to everyone that made it in. Good luck on your nursing journey, my prayers are with everyone!

Same. Just checked mine and it says denied. I just wish I knew why because like you my stats are good.
