Are there not a lot of quarter students around here? I don't have the chance to "earn" my summer off...NS runs year round.

My previous school was on quarters and the there nursing program had the summer off as well. I surely am not going to feel guilty for having a summer off though. My 4 kids enjoyed all the time we had to do stuff since when I am in nursing school they have to sacrifice a lot. Especially since my husband works out of town for 5 months in the winter/spring and so it's just me and the kids and nursing school and clinicals.

I wasn't given any choice in the matter. Our program doesn't run through the summer. I'll whine if I need to, though it is unlikely, since whining isn't really my way of coping with things.

I too worked hard for my grades, with kids, job, spouse and other issues and obligations. All I have to finish are my nursing classes now. And school will be intense come Fall whether I had the summer off or not. It isn't as if I was given the choice to do some of it ahead of time.

I spent my summer working an externship at the local hospital. So...yeah. Not a whole lot of lounging around the house days happened here anyway. I finished co-req's ahead of schedule and now am able to network for that first job. I honestly think the implication that those of us who weren't in school during the summer are somehow slackers is pretty incendiary and rude.

That was the same here. Our program doesn't run in the summer. A lot of students did co reqs during the summer. I already had mine done so I didn't need to do any classes this summer. I only have Core nursing classes to do and those have to be taken when the school says. I completely agree with your last statement. Whining isn't really my way of dealing with things either, but I reserve the right too! HAHA

We didn't have classes over the summer either and that wasn't by my choice. If I'd had classes that I could have taken over the summer, I would have. That said, I did enjoy having time off. I have used my time to study some NCLEX, do some reading (both school related and non-school related) and see my family.

Nursing school is stressful & hectic whether you have the summer off or not. Honestly, my biggest concern is getting "back into the swing of things" when I start back up next week.

Best of luck to everyone this semester, whether you had the summer off or not. :nurse:

I read this thread with a very tongue-in-cheak mentality....I didn't think anyone was trying to be rude, really. We all have our stories and have worked hard to get where we are. I think everyone should lighten up and give themselves and each other a break! (And that's all I have to say about that :yeah:).

I am joking. ( :p ) lol I fully expect ridiculous amounts of whining. LOL :jester:

The school I'm attending had us split up for Summer 1 and Summer 2 semesters for Pharmacology. I went in Summer 1 so I was lucky to have the second half of the summer off! I've spent lots of time with my kiddos since I've recently been laid off after 11 years of working in a laboratory. It's been a great month! I've also used the time at night (I used to work midnights) to get ahead on the reading and study guide assignments so that I will be fully prepared for school to begin in 2 weeks.

I hope that all of you have found ways to enjoy your summer, regardless of whether you were in school or lucky, like me, to have a few months of down time. We all worked hard to get where we are and I think all of us should be commended.

No worries, I won't whine on here...I reserve whining for my husbands ears; the poor guy! ;)

i had a semi summer off, worked only two days. 1st semester of NS starts next week and i am dreading and anticipating the stress already. our NS is bases on two semesters a year so i will gladly take a summer off next year...and come whine about it come fall!!!!

LOL, Im just pathetic. I only took A&P 2 this summer , have 4 kids but no job and I can barely cope. I tell ya, most people on these boards can run circles around me. I really need to get it together before NS begins.

Oh come on! K, I'll join you. I'm pathetic too, I guess. I only took A&P1 during the summer and have five kids, and no job. No really though, think about it this way. You have four kids! That is two jobs! Plus, you crammed one of the hardest pre-reqs. into a summer session. I think that's pretty good. Plus when you get into the program, you won't have your kids home and you will be doing much of your work at school/clinical (of course there will be lots of homework too). You will have time to think clearly and time to do the work required of you. Give yourself some credit.

I can't wait to be in NS!

We do have a break this summer...and will next summer. However, there is no break for our last two semesters and it will be continuous for 12 months straight

I had summer "off" from school, but I worked 3 12 hour shifts a week for my nurse internship and 1 10 hour day a week at my regular job too, so I kept plenty busy. I never really got a chance to rest at all!

I worked an externship but still managed to take a ton of time off and do the things I wanted to do. What category does that put me in? Can I whine a little bit after the first 4 weeks?

Vacation is never enough or tiring.
