Hi...I haven't posted in a while because I've been so busy! I was wondering if anyone else is doing a summer extern program? I requested OR, L&D..and they gave me cardiac cath lab! I'm pretty excited about it! Anyone else have any experience w/this?
Thanks!

I'm sorry you didn't get the unit you wanted!
I've applied at two different hospitals - L&D is my first choice (followed by OR and ED - I really want to work in a specialized area). The hospital I really want to get it at is 15 minutes from my house (and they're building a new campus that will be done next year that will be 5 minutes from my house). The hospital that I think I have a better shot at (and honestly, it would be a GREAT place to work) is one hour away. They won't even be doing interviews until late April, so I'll probably know where/if I got a job right around the end of the semester.

I applied for one back where I grew up. My top three choices were all ICUs. Still haven't heard anything back yet and I'm starting to get rather impatient. Good luck to everyone and their applications.

I'm applying at two different hospitals.... The one I've had my interviews at already and should hear something by the end of this week. I applied for L&D, and Peds there. The other hospital I applied for I am interviewing for what they call their VIP floor. People such as Kings and Queens from other countries, and politicians are all on this floor. I really want this one more than the first hospital I interviewed at! Good luck to everyone else still waiting to find out their placement too!!

What's the C? Cardiac?
The c is either cardic or coronary but they're both hearts stuff.
So I got a call today and had a mini-phone interview (finally)!
They said that I would be notified at the end of next week if I made the program or not. Also they may call me in next week for a personal interview too. I really hope I get this program. It's paid, housing paid and provided, and it's 12 weeks in a major medical center hospital.

I know I've been accepted for an externship this summer, but I'm not sure what area. We're having interviews (just a formal thing since we've already been chosen) and getting details on Tuesday! :)

the cath lab is really cool though! At least, I enjoyed my rotation through it in rad tech school. Seeing the images on fluoro, watching a clogged artery get opened up, watching the docs embolize (sp?) a brain aneurysm and clot off a brain tumor. I'm telling ya, it's good stuff! The cath lab and vascular was my #1 pick until I started my Children's rotation and now I am in heaven. Good luck during your externship!

Don't know which unit I'll be assigned to yet.
Gut tells me it's the ED, which should be a big help in next year's classes.

I graduate in 2 months and I did an ER externship last summer. It was the best thing I did in Nusing school. I learned more there than all my classes combined. I wanted to cry when it was time to leave it was so much fun and now I am positive I want to do ER when I graduate. A lot of my fellow classmates are going to work where they did their externships. Fight to get it in an area you are really interested in.
Just had the meeting/interview about my externship earlier today! Found out I'll be spending eight weeks this summer in the CCU working 7a-7p
WOOHOO - I can't wait! :)
