If there was one piece of advice...
I just found out today I have a job in a level 1 trauma center when I graduate! I am scared to death and excited. The director during my interview said that the best thing to do was to never be afraid to ask questions. I have heard it's important that you don't go in acting like you know everything or try to be too confident. If someone wants to teach you something you already know, just let them, you might learn something new.

No She/he Did Not!!!
No she did not draw up Mylanta in a syringe and bring it into the pts room--the needle attached, before being stopped. (Rumor from one of my clincal sites.)

What they SHOULD teach in nursing school . . .
HA HA HA! :chuckle The first time I tried to put a Foley in a female I wasn't anywhere near the urethra, my instructor must have thought I was such an idot. They showed us on a diagram, but every woman is so different. Now I just aim high and never have a problem. I agree they don't teach you what you really need to know. My program is a community based BSN program. This means I spend literally 8 to 16 hours a week sitting in an office pretending to work, or filing papers for my clinical rotations. I am better equipped to make a poster or write a 10 page paper on some obscure nursing topic than I am to assess a patient or give a medication. I guess that's how they get the BS in BSN. I'm sure I'll learn what I need to know eventually. I am just afraid of how many times I am going to look like an idiot in the meantime! :imbar Did anyone have any embarrassing moments as new grads they would be willing to share?

Anyone entered into BSN program w/o stats
I would definately take the stats before nursing school. It is better to take it with algebra than with 18 hours of nursing credits and clinicals on top of it. You will be so glad you got it over with.

Salary to expect as a new grad nurse
I'm in Springfield, MO. I have heard new grads start at 15.50 an hour here, 16.50 if I'm lucky. Cost of living is cheap, you can get a nice apartment for 600 a month, but the two hospitals here battle to keep wages low for us. :angryfire Too bad I like Springfield so much.
