I'd signed up to work the second session of Summer camp, which is my side gig. Previously RJ Junior's attendance at said camp was made possible by my work there. But now they just pay me! This weekend they cancelled the second session (July to August) on the grounds that the primary tenet of camp was to keep the students and the staff safe from harm.
Realizing that everyone is making best guesses with information that's available now (which may or may not be true in one, three, six weeks....) I'm grateful they called it early.
MA is allowing Summer day camps but the mandates for them are extensive, including need for them to be held outdoors mainly.
No overnight camps right now, though.
I'm surprised, but to be honest, know it is because of daycare needs and part of me is very, very curious about lessons learned/etc from it that can used for schools this fall.

Our town is likely not holding any camps because they just cannot do everything they need to do to get them up and running. DESE is coming out with their Return to School plan on June 15 and it sounds like it will be very similar mandates to the EEC one that came out on Monday.
it seems that Summer school here will be virtual. So it looks like I get the whole Summer off. Flare jr was supposed to go to a police academy day camp with her explorer post, but that was cancelled. I told her that her Summer would essentially be more of hanging with me... she was less than enthusiasic. I feel a little offended ?
I've writtten off the Summer. I can probably survive, but if schools aren't "in person" attendance in the fall, I'm going to have to find something else to do. Right now I'm hoping to just pick up some "fill-in/vacation" shifts at my old home care agency. Tomorrow is the last date the district is paying for until the students come back.
Have you gotten a contract? I have similar concerns. I made sure to sign m contract, despite the fact that I should be moving across the salary guide, as I hit my BA +15 last month. Also, what do your state laws say on nursing coverage per district? The laws as they stand here make it so they are obligated to have a nurse. If we're not back in the fall, then I'll probably move to try and schedule "housecalls" to at least get screenings done.
My contract was up yesterday. The Summer school was optional and since there are no students, there's no need for me. My understanding that in normal circumstances, the next school years contracts would go out in July. All that is up in the air if they don't have students in the building. I'm only paid the days the students are here.
Our regular school nurse is in a better position (though I think she's on a 9 month contract as well) but she indeed has responsibilities whether the children are in the building or not.

I am so glad RJ Junior is 19 and driving. Although she's been doing essentially that since March as well. She signed up for Physics 1 and 2 (EEESH) because 1) she only needs it for med school and 2) on-line physics lab. It's not the same as being a counselor but it will keep her away from her version of Roblox!
