Summer camp called it

I'd signed up to work the second session of Summer camp, which is my side gig. Previously RJ Junior's attendance at said camp was made possible by my work there. But now they just pay me! This weekend they cancelled the second session (July to August) on the grounds that the primary tenet of camp was to keep the students and the staff safe from harm.

Realizing that everyone is making best guesses with information that's available now (which may or may not be true in one, three, six weeks....) I'm grateful they called it early.

Bummer for you, but glad they called it. Which state is this in? My kiddos go to a NH camp and they are "optimistic" that they will run July and August. Honestly I wish they would just call it. Kids come from all over the place , including MA (us), FL, NY, CT, NJ...and staff come from overseas.

they haven't made a call on Summer school sessions here yet - that's my side gig - but I don't see it happening. On the plus side, I'm using this pandemic to push my agenda of getting a second nurse for the district. Boss man isn't immediately shutting me down

Central Texas.

I would think long and hard about working a Summer camp that took kids from NY, NJ, or anywhere else where there was a large number of cases....because kids are mostly asymptomatic...

You may well need two people in clinic next year. One to manage the cough/fever kids that will likely require isolation - even if they're more likely to be kids with influenza, we're still trying to develop a plan to isolate, much like we did with Ebola.

Who manages the meds and the non-urgent visits when you're tied up in PPE and can't leave?

The camp I work at is in NY and they have counselors come in from Europe -they haven't made an announcement yet but I am not too hopeful for it happening.

I am scheduled for Summer school, but I think they're either going to cancel that or scale it back. If it's not in my building, I don't think I'll be employed this Summer.

My Kids' overnight camp in New Hampshire called it last evening. Lots of disappointed kids. But I honestly am surprised there were people who thought it was possible to open, considering all of the International staff, 10th grade trip to Israel with a subsequent return to camp, etc., etc.

Our camp cancelled too (Maine). I was worried about staffing (LOTS of international counselors) and medically fragile campers (camp for adults and kids with special needs) so I am kind of relieved. I'm still moving out there for the Summer, though, to help with on-line camp, and hopefully hosting small groups once the "gathering" guidelines are loosened a bit in my state.

Our Summer camp is closed for June, we have not made a decision regarding July yet. I do have a feeling however, that it will be cancelled as well.

What state is this? I am awaiting a PA camp to make the July call. I had two camps lined up for kids, one in NH (cancelled) and a week in PA. The PA camp is so far hoping to open July 5...

I am in Fl

I'm in CT. My older son's Boy Scout troop recently called off both camp opportunities for this Summer (BSA camp in the Catskills and a trip to Rocky Mountain National park). He is now totally without any planned activities. CT has cancelled all overnight camps. He has no interest in sports; camping is his "thing" and he uses Summer to rack up merit badges. I was going to take him camping in Acadia, but then found out from my brother that Maine has a 2-week quarantine period, so that's out. He is so excited to use the new tent he got for Christmas, and I'm afraid he won't be camping anywhere other than our backyard.

My younger son is signed up for 2 weeks of day camp, and that IS running because it falls under daycare as an essential service. The catch is that they will no longer be bussing them, so now it's half an hour each way to drop him off, they won't provide lunch, and they'll be in pods so he can't choose any electives. I'm tempted to pull him myself because it's pretty darn expensive and a logistical hassle for a scaled down version of camp, but, then, what better options do I have? He's been playing Roblox non stop since mid March.
