STUPID interview questions, add yours here

I have been on about six interviews this month, and I am appalled at the stupidity of this process.

Does anyone at all think up original questions any more?

My last interview consisted of a woman, who couod not have been less bored w the process, asking me about 25 questions. She read straight from her little list that some HR analysts designed I supposed, and continuously interrupted by chatting to people who walked by her door.

Here were some of the questions...

Tell me about a time when someone questioned your integrity.

Tell me about a time when someone accused you of something you didn't do

Tell me about a time when you missed a deadline

Tell me about a time that you did something creative for a pt

and on and on, all starting w "Tell me about a time"...

I hated this whole style of questioning. It doesn't ask you how you handle that kind of a situation, but rather puts you on the spot to recall a specific experience that demonstrates what they are looking for.

I mean, I don't have the best memory, so I wouldn't mind these questions if they sent them to me the day before and asked me to write an essay on them. But to pull out an experience like this out of the thin air, it's just...stupid!! Not one personal question was asked like, Why are you interested in working 1 in this position, 2 for this company, etc...

One doctor said to me... "In this day of nursing shortages, you could write your own ticket so-to-speak, so why would you want this job? Later, what other positions have you interveiwed for if you don't mind me asking. Uh, I DO mind you asking, but do I say that??? Of course not, if I want the job, so I am forced to answer.

Another interview, three diff people, a HR person, then the supervisor, then the director, all came in and asked me the same exact set of questions from their little sheet of paper. Why couldn't they just ask me in a group,so they could all get the answers at once? Is this some kind of a stupid "test" to see if I am consistent?? How dull!

I don't like this cookie-cutter style of interviews. Very meaningless. Any recruiters out there? Can you explain the rationale? Don't you ever feel silly asking those stupid questions??

My favorite question was really a statement, phrased as a question. "You realize you are too well dressed to work here? It's intimidating."

Remind me never to wear a black business suit again........

Now you guys are scaring me!! I have an interview next week and now I need to decide what vegetable I want to be!

The answer is to show that you are versatile my answer was onion reason- multilayered therefore multi-talented, multi-dimensional , onions work well with any recipe and of course onion adds a little spice

Fergus, not every interview is like that!! Just the ones I have been on lately!! Some doozey's. At least now you have have some answers prepared for the stupid stuff you've seen posted here. Imagine having no idea you'd be asked which veggie you are. Now think how cool you will look when you can say, "Oh most definitely an Onion...I am multi-layered and work well with everything."

GOOD answer J!!!!!!! :) I'm gonna use that if I get asked that question again.

Is it ever OK to bend the truth? Oh man, talk about a trap question!!!!!

Hoolahan

To that

Is it ever OK to bend the truth? Oh man, talk about a trap question!!!!!

Depends on the situation!!!!!!!!!! If a patient asked me if I am going to die and could not give me the right cues that they truely wanted to know then I would say Yes I would bend the truth

BUT for everything else my answer would be NO NOT ON YOUR LIFE OR MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This would hopeful show interviewers strength of character and commitment to patients

hahah as for the whole "is it ever okay to bend the truth?" question I would not have been able to restrain myself from saying something like "only during a job interview when you really want the job" and then wink or something

hahahaha god how do you win with answering that question?

you say its never okay to bend the truth and there you are lying right to them , you say it is okay to bend the truth and they wont believe a word you say from that moment on , what a pickle!

kinda like when someone asks you if youre attractive ...

you say no and you have no self esteem , you say yes and youre conceited .....

See, now, I would think that was hilarious if a candidate said that to me, but then, like I said, I wouldn't be asking that question in the first place!

You guys are giving me some great ideas on how to mess with applicants! (scribbling notes: "what...kind...of...vegetable...")

Just kidding.

I am sat here laughing cos I too interview for qualified and unqualified nurses

I personally would not dream to ask what type of vegetable

But some co-interviewers say I am tough

I only ask pertanent questions mainly to find out how commited people are to the profession. I only want nurses who are prepared to give their best to provide quality care any thing else is not good enough

I always ask candidates about the latest professional article they have read and how it has changed their practice

and another is

what code of the professional conduct do you relate more to and why [this is a good one as it can demostrate quite a lot about personal and professional commitment]

I have a job that I can tolerate, but wanted to know what else was out there, so applied for a similar job. My entire interview was like a psychological assessment / personality test. I got flustered, and then was not able to take the interview seriously. I am sure they didn't like my joking attitude. After that uncomfortable experience, I decided that I liked my job was even better than before. Oh, and I didn't get offered the job...:nuke: Just remembering that interview keeps me from wanting to change jobs.
