Studying Advice

I am on my first semester and so far is going good, but I feel like I am lacking on my learning. How do you/did you study for your fundamentals class?

I read and as I am reading I write terminology and its definitions and whatever I think seems to jump out, which it seems to be a lot sometimes..

What techniques/tips can you share for studying and preparing for fundamentals exams?

The thing that is helping me the most is making flashcards out of note cards for terms. And study groups. Hope that helps a little :)

Actually paying attention to lectures and reading over stuff you think you need to read over...

That's what I do. Writing stuff down does nothing for me but waste time since I write small and slow and am definitely not going to speed that up. I can't highlight anything or I get seriously anal about how straight and even the highlighting has to be. Frankly, I still have it beaten into my head that you don't write in school books even if you pay for them, lol. Thank you elementary teachers and yard sticks to the knuckles! Group studying does nothing but pss me off, lol.

Thank God I'm primarily an auditory classroom learner.

Everyone is different and learns different but the way I studied was, I would use my review books (such as the Saunders Comprehensive and the Review and Rationales) and studyt eh content we were going over in class. That way I'd have the main points of what I needed to know. Then after I felt I knew it well enough, I would do any reading out of the text book if I felt I needed more clarification. For me, going straight to the text book and just reading didn't work because I was too overwhelmed.

overwhelmed is a huge understatement....

i am only taking A & P 1 and i dont know where to begin to study for a lab test and a lec test coming up this week.....lab is on tisses viewed in the micorscope and lec is on the first 4 chapters....bio chemistry cells and chem is chapters 2 and 3 which i cannot grasp whats so ever....have to label a cell and give an example of what each substance does....

i read,i write i go to my books website and do quizzes AND diagrams....it is not sinking in....

i just ordered the a & p for dummies....hope that helps....

and this is only one class!!!

3 yrs ago when i went thru LPN school i was fine..alot of work thrown at you,it was fast fast fast....but i loved it....high 80s was what i finished with...so i was pretty proud of myself cause i am older and didnt like school or college when younger.....was 45...3 yrs passed and i think my brain lost it...
