i will be attending college next year and was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on how to fit in. i use a wheelchair to get around but so far it hasnt slowed me down one bit, nor do i intend for it to. i want to become a pediatric rn because that is my lifelong dream.

Good Luck to you. Did you contact your school to make sure that they have a wheelchair access? My school just made major adjustments concerning that. On how to 'fit in': Just be yourself.

Also get in contact with the Office of Students with Disabilties (or whatever it may be called at your school). They will help you with any needed accomodations for your classes. :)

I think you have chosen a great field. I graduate in December and I know for a fact in my Nursing program that you would fit right in. I also think it will be great for you to go into peds being in a wheelchair. I think it is important to expose children to things they view as "different". Good luck in your program and in Peds.

I would definitely check ahead about accomodations. Especially for the wintertime, since the sidewalks and parking lots will be icy.

Hi-welcome to allnurses. I found this article and thought you'd like it--there is also a book referenced that looks great:
