student shortcuts

Published

It's my last semester, and I've started taking all kinds of shortcuts to save time. Here are some of my favorites:

Soup for dinner: just open, peel off the label, and heat up the can directly on the stove

Dishes: I now use only paper plates. You'd be surprised how often aluminum foil can stand in for cookware.

Healthful eating: I don't have time for it. I buy cases of V8.

Showering: If I didn't have time to wash my hair, I use hair freshening spray and a ponytail.

Cereal for dinner: Hey, it's not that bad for you.

Laundry: Use Febreze. Buy two weeks' worth of panties and socks. When you run out of towels, use hand towels, kitchen towels, or even paper towels.

Coffee: I don't have time for it. Buy caffeinated mints.

Reading: I don't have time for all of it. Fall asleep with textbook on face and hope some of it sinks in.

What are yours?

I am definitely going to have to do this when I start nursing school next semester! Anything to make things easier in the mornings.

Kids add a whole new dimension to nursing school, believe me. Permission slips are signed the night before, backpacks and lunchbags are packed the night before. I used to pack a lunch in an insulated bag, leave the bag open and in the fridge. In the morning, just throw an icepack in the bag if needed, zip up and hand it to whichever kid was leaving :)

I know we will get in our groove, but I am nervous about how things are going to be once I start nursing school. My kids aren’t school-age yet but the mornings can still be hectic getting them all ready and out the door. Their schedule (and mine) is pretty flexible so if we’re running a few minutes behind it’s not a big deal. Once I start nursing school, that will change as I can’t be late for class/clinicals/lab.

No time for coffee?! :o I'd die...

lol yes coffee is mandatory or the rest of my day is gunna go to hell in a hand basket quickly :D I usually brew my second cup into a travel mug as I make my kids lunches and drink it on our way to school. (I have my first cup while I do my hair and make up lol)

Yes coffee is definitely mandatory, best thing I ever got was my keurig, quickly can make a cup of coffee even if I am on the go. Paper plates and plastic silverware are great reduce the amount of dishes that need to be washed. The microwave cups of Mac and cheese are great, and with the off brands to improve the flavor adding some cheddar cheese make them edible. Also baked potatoes in the microwave make a quick dinner, and many options of things you can put onto them. Guilty of leaving clothes in the laundry baskets and grabbing them out as needed. Need to get the crockpot out and going again.

If you wear your clothes when you shower, you'll get your laundry done.

lolol, brilliant!

PBJ dogs, I love it! I don't know how the people with kids do it. I would lose my mind.

She said she had two weeks worth of clean underwear and socks so I am thinking she must wash at least every two weeks.

Good thing I have teens that can help out with dishes and put prepared food in the oven. I am thinking when I start nursing school in the Spring I will have use my crock pot and timed pressure and rice cooker. It will all work out.

Hahaha! Laughed out loud. Thanks for the chuckle!

If any of ya'll shop at a big-box warehouse (for me Costco) you can buy a 20-something case of Starbucks coffee and throw them in the fridge. Their cooked foods/deli section is also great for ready-made stuff, too. (Mmmm, turkey rolls.)

If you need to get rid of smells on bras, throw 'em in the bottom of your freezer for awhile, I've done that many times that I've forgot to do laundry.

Kinda makes me wish I wore bras.

OK, not really!
